Optical waveguide devices including dry photohardenable layers

A substantially dry method for making an optical waveguide device with at least one buried channel waveguide in a laminated and hardened matrix. The method begins with exposing to light a region of a substantially dry photohardenable film adhered to a support. Then a first substantially dry photohardenable layer which is adhered to a support is laminated to one side of the film. Then the support is removed from the film. Then a second substantially dry photohardenable layer which is adhered to a support is laminated to the other side of the film. Then the layers and film are hardened.

Optical waveguide devices, elements for making the devices and methods

Methods of making assemblies and assemblies for interconnecting optical fibers and use in integrated optical systems. The optical fiber connector assemblies include a pedestal having a step supporting an optical waveguide device having a buried waveguide. End portions of the step support means for receiving cores and cladding of optical fibers with the optical axes of the cores in alignment with the optical axis or axes of the waveguide.

Optical fiber connector assemblies and methods of making the assemblies

A system for measuring the energy transmission through a moving aperture pattern includes a CCD (charge coupled device) sensor having at least one row of pixels arranged perpendicular to the direction of motion. An encoder responds to the motion and provides count pulses. For each count pulse, specific pixels are addressed to establish a plurality of inspection areas for the aperture pattern through which energy transmission is measured. The transmission is averaged for all the inspection areas to determine the acceptability of the aperture pattern.

System and method for measuring energy transmission through a moving

A device for providing a substantially flat light field to a light imaging medium includes a transparent disc and an optical system. The surface of the disc is made opaque and light is coupled to the optical system through the edge of the disc by reflection from the internal surface of the disc. The intensity of light passing through the disc to the optical system decreases as the distance from the coupling edge increases. The combined effects of the disc and the optical system result in a substantially flat light field.
