An electric motor actuated stop/check valve for industrial use such as liquid pumping systems which has a controlled opening and closing rate when liquid flow is in a forward direction but closes quickly upon reverse flow of liquid with no action from the electric motor actuator. Actuation of the valve is by an electric motor which provides movement to an actuator rod which contacts the disc stem. The disc stem and the actuator rod are not connected which allows the valve disc and disc stem free movement. No action by the electric motor is required. A spring biasing the valve disc toward the closed position and a hydraulically operated valve closing-speed regulator reduces or eliminates slamming of the valve disc against the valve seat. In a preferred method of operation liquid surge pressure transients are reduced or eliminated and slamming of valve components is prevented.

Electric motor actuated stop and self-closing check valve

A siphon breaker includes a housing having a gas inlet and a gas outlet. The siphon breaker includes a stop valve adapted to transition from a closed position in which gas is substantially prevented from entering the gas inlet, and an open position in which gas is introduced into the gas inlet. The siphon breaker includes a control valve having a control valve gas inlet, a control valve gas outlet, and an electrically operated actuator. The control valve is adapted to transition from a closed position in which gas is substantially prevented from entering the control valve gas inlet, to an open position in which gas is through the control valve gas inlet.

A valve disc having an elongated disc stem contacts a valve seat when in a closed position to stop liquid flow. Actuation of the valve is by an electric motor which provides movement to an actuator rod which contacts the disc stem. The disc stem and the actuator rod are not connected which allows the valve disc and disc stem free movement, by action of the momentarily back-flowing liquid, to a back-flow preventing closed position when liquid forward flow is reversed. No action by the electric motor is required. A spring biasing the valve disc toward the closed position and a hydraulically operated valve closing-speed regulator reduces or eliminates slamming of the valve disc against the valve seat. In a preferred method of operation liquid surge pressure transients are reduced or eliminated and slamming of valve components is prevented.

A self-cleaning stationary basket strainer has a housing with an inlet adjacent the top and an outlet adjacent the bottom, with a stationary strainer basket contained therein spaced from the wall of the housing. A flush discharge opening and a backwash discharge opening and provided in the closed bottom of the housing. A hollow backwash conduit is provided adjacent the inner surface of the strainer basket, adapted to move about the inner periphery thereof, and has a passage in the wall thereof communicating with a chamber in the conduit. A discharge section on the hollow backwash conduit communicates with the backwash discharge opening in the housing, the backwash discharge opening sealable when not in use. A scraper blade and extension member are provided on the hollow backwash conduit forming a channel which communicates with the passage. A rotatable brush may also be used which moves about the inner periphery of the strainer basket and brushes the inner surface of the strainer basket.

Self-cleaning stationary basket strainer

A backwashable self-cleaning strainer has a vertical housing containing a rotatable strainer basket. The housing has an inlet adjacent the top thereof and an outlet adjacent the bottom wall, with a flush discharge opening in the bottom wall. Components for rotating the strainer basket are located outside the flow of water containing particulates that enters the housing. A hollow backwash conduit with a passage through the sidewall is positioned adjacent the inner surface of the strainer basket and communicates with a sealable aperture in the wall of the housing. Upon opening of the aperture, cleaned water flows through the side wall of the strainer basket, removing particulates therefrom, and out the hollow backwash conduit. An intermittently rotatable brush is also provided to brush the inner surface of the strainer basket.

Backwashable self-cleaning strainer

A self-cleaning strainer comprises a vertically disposed housing which contains a rotatable strainer basket. The housing has an open top, closed by a closure plate, an inlet adjacent the top of the housing and an outlet adjacent a closed bottom of the housing, the closed bottom having a flush discharge opening. The components used to rotate the strainer basket are disposed outside the flow of any water containing particulates that enters the housing. Cleaning devices such as a scraper blade supported in the strainer basket, a rotatable brush supported in the strainer basket, and a water jet manifold disposed between the housing sidewall and the sidewall of the strainer basket are used to clean the rotatable strainer basket.

Self-cleaning strainer

A stepper for use between a transducer subjected to variable pressure, heat or liquid level for converting the continuous output signal of the transducer with all of its variations, both of significant magnitude and those of insignificant importance, into a continuous stepped output signal that increases or decreases the current to a transducer responsive control unit, particularly a servo amplifier, which stepped signal eliminates all minor and unimportant fluctuations from the output current from the transducer. The stepper also includes a sequence of voltage regulators such as potentiometers in the circuits between the stepper and the servo amplifier by means of which the magnitude of the current flow of each step to the servo amplifier may be adjusted or programmed with respect to one another. It is particularly useful in the regulation of flow control valves in water distribution and sewage disposal systems, but its application to steam boilers is also disclosed and described.

Programmable stepper for transducer controlled apparatus

In order to more effectively control the operation of surge valves in pumping stations through relatively long pipelines where liquid is pumped to an elevated discharge circuit and avoid excessive waste of water, where there is provided an electric solenoid to effect opening and subsequent closing of the surge valve and an electric circuit that responds to abnormal conditions which will result in a pressure surge of water with the unscheduled pump stoppage due to mechanical or electrical failure. This circuit operates to open the solenoid valve in time for the surge valve to open before the actual pressure surge of water arrives and closes after the surge has spent at least most of its force, so that liquid will be spilled for only a safe period of time. At the same time, the circuit will effect the successive display of pilot lights to indicate its condition at any time. There are also provided battery charging and indicating circuits to meet the charging requirements of the battery under different conditions to which it is subjected and also display battery circuit condition indicating lights. Provision is made for indicating the condition of a battery circuit which provides energy in the event of power failure to assure proper operation, along with a power supply circuit, and there are modifications to meet special conditions.

Pump failure protection for liquid transmission pipelines

For use in connection with an electrically driven pump and check valve combination as used in municipal water and sewage plants wherein the check valve prevents the reverse flow of water from the pipeline to which the pump supplies water into the pump, as would otherwise happen in case of a pump failure or breakdown or temporary power failure, there is provided a pump director with a first timer that starts the pump operating as soon as a control switch is closed and power is available and, as soon as the pump motor is energized, a blue signal light flashes, but if pressure does not begin to build up in the pump outlet with the check valve closed, a flashing red signal will replace the blue and continue indefinitely until manually reset. If the pump does start to build up pressure, the flashing blue light will become steady whereupon a buildup of pressure continues and a flashing green light replaces the steady blue; and a second timer takes over under control also of a pressure switch to start opening the check valve and a limit switch is opened that cuts both timers out of the circuit and switches the flashing green light to a steady green light. In the event of an emergency, such as an unscheduled power failure, a damaged pump or motor, etc., a pressure switch losing pressure will trigger a fast emergency closing of the check valve and open the motor circuit.
