A method is provided for winding an elastic yarn into a cylindrical substantially straight-ended yarn package. The method includes feeding an elastic or elastomeric yarn at a substantially constant speed to a tube core to form the yarn package. The yarn package is rotated such that the yarn package with a substantially constant surface speed. The yarn is wound to form layers of helical coils, while providing a helix angle variation of greater than zero up to +/&#x2212;80%.

Method for winding an elastic yarn package

A method of winding an elastomeric yarn, such as spandex, onto a spool includes the steps of providing a spool; providing an elastomeric yarn; rotating the spool at a speed to define a spool rotation speed; moving the yarn traversely with respect to the spool in an alternating to and fro manner to define a traverse frequency; winding the yarn onto the spool; controlling the ratio of the spool rotation speed to the traverse frequency to define a wind ratio during the winding of the yarn onto the spool; and decreasing the traverse speed as the yarn is wound onto the spool in an inverse proportion to an amount of yarn that has been wound. The winding of the yarn onto the spool forms a yarn cake on the spool. The traverse speed may be decreased in inverse proportion to a diameter of the yarn cake. The method may further include the step of shifting the yarn by a pitch for each rotation of the spool.

Winder for synthetic filaments

A process and apparatus for the on-demand, low tension feeding of a filling member for weft insertion in a loom without substantial twist. The filling member is supplied without substantial twist at an average rate equal to the process speed take-up rate of the loom. The supplied filling member is advanced into a filling member accumulator from which the filling member is withdrawn by the loom. As the filling member is advanced into the accumulator, it is formed into serpentine folds. The supplying of the filling member is controlled in response to the filling member being taken up by the loom and a sufficient amount of the filling member is caused to accumulate in the accumulator to meet the high demand for the filling member when the loom accelerates to process speed operation.

The segmenting is accomplished by jetting pressurized fluid onto the continuous filament yarn wads in a programmed manner.
