Vertebral traction device and method

The present invention provides for the isolation of genomic DNA fragments from Drosophila melanogaster encoding conserved amino acid sequence elements unique to the ligand-gated chloride channel gene family. A polymerase chain reaction (PCR)-based homology probing strategy was utilized to isolate the genomic DNA fragments. Using the PCR strategy, three discrete amplified sequence elements designated LCCH1, LCCH2 and LCCH3, were isolated, LCCH2 and LCCH3 being novel. In another aspect of the present invention, there is provided the cloning and characterization of a cDNA encoding a novel member of the ligand-gated chloride channel gene family of insects isolated from Drosophila melanogaster. The cDNA corresponds to the LCCH3 genomic sequence of the invention.

There is disclosed a storage and handling system for large flexible sheets such as printing plates. The system includes a rack which is of generally conventional construction having upright end standards or vertical posts that suspend at least one horizontal shelf. The shelf is provided with a plurality of horizontal tracks, each of which has a central, open channel along its bottom surface, to provide a slide receptacle. A T-bar is slidably and removably mounted in the open channel of each of these tracks. The T-bar has a plurality of apertures which are spaced, preferably at regular and predetermined distances, through its upright flange. These apertures receive removable two-ended hooks. The opposite ends of the hooks are inserted in apertures along one side edge of each of the printing plates. As the T-bar is completely removable from the rack, it also functions as a handling aid for the flexible printing plate, preventing the plate from bending or distorting and readily permitting a single operator to handle even the largest printing plates. A small rack is also provided as an accesory, having at least one track for temporarily mounting on the front of the storage rack, to provide a sheet handling station.

Storage and handling system

There is disclosed a storage shelf which is specifically designed for an orderly storage of pails with tapered sidewalls. The shelf is used on a rack with end frames which support longitudinal rails at each shelf level. The shelves of the invention are supported between the longitudinal rails, with their ends resting on ledges which are on the inside surface of each rail. Each shelf is formed of heavy gauge sheet metal having coextensive, sidewalls with inclined inside walls. The height and inclination of the inside walls corresponds to the difference between the top and bottom diameters of the pails. This results in a shelf having inclined sidewalls which center the pails on the shelves, yet which provides minimal clearance between the tops of the pails, from row to row, thereby achieving automatic alignment of the pails without increasing the overall size or bulk of the storage unit. Each shelf is braced by its sidewalls and by a central longitudinal rib on its undersurface. To adapt the shelf to fit conventional racks, an angle is placed transversely on each end, thus locating the shelf beneath the top edge of the rail at a distance equal to the height of the sidewalls of the shelf. Also, in a preferred embodiment, a cross wall is provided medially of the shelf.

There is disclosed a rotary, work-support table having a plurality of interchangeable cylindrical work-support members which are removably mounted on a frame having end plates with bearing supports to receive bearing means carried on stub shafts of the cylindrical members. The device is useful as a work table for supporting a flexible sheet (make-ready) during the bonding of the flexible printing dies thereto.
