An implant retention system for a knit surgical implant can include an elongated hollow mesh tip, including a flanged section at a distal end thereof and an internal threaded section proximal to the flanged section, and an elongated hollow lock tube, including a non-threaded section at a distal end thereof and an external threaded section proximal to the non-threaded section. The mesh tip can be threaded over the lock tube to define a crimp section between the flanged section and the non-threaded section that engages a portion of the knit surgical implant to retain the knit surgical implant in engagement with the lock tube.

A surgical implant fill system can include a fill tube and a tube twister. A flange of the fill tube can be keyed to the tube twister so that the fill tube does not rotate independent from the tube twister when the flange is engaged with the tube twister. A release mechanism secures the flanged end to the tube twister. Visual and tactile indications can be provided on the tube twister to show the direction of the dispensing end of the fill tube.

A method for performing percutaneous spinal interbody fusion on a spine of a patient can include inserting without direct visualization a neuro-monitoring dilating probe into the patient, performing neuro-monitoring via the neuro-monitoring dilating probe, advancing the neuro-monitoring dilating probe into a disc space, passing a second dilator over the neuro-monitoring dilating probe, and advancing the second dilator into the disc space. A kit for performing percutaneous spinal interbody fusion can include a neuro-monitoring dilating probe, a second dilator, a tissue removal tool, an access portal comprising an adjustable depth stop, and a discectomy verification device.

System and method for performing percutaneous spinal interbody fusion

A method for performing an efficient and thorough percutaneous discectomy includes making into the patient a percutaneous incision, which is a small stab wound, no more than approximately 10 mm in length. A stimulated combination neuro-monitoring dilating probe is passed through an approximately 10 mm or less skin incision and into a patient's disc space to establish a safe path and trajectory through Kambin's Triangle. Once a neuro-monitoring dilating probe is in the disc space, a second dilator is placed over the neuro-monitoring dilating probe and impacted into the disc space. Neuro-monitoring dilating probe may then be removed. An access portal optionally combined with a force dissipation device may then be placed over the second dilator and into the disc space. The second dilator is removed and then discectomy instruments may be placed through the access portal to perform the discectomy.

An expandable reamer for forming a space within a vertebral disc includes a pair of opposing blades which have a expanded state and a retracted state. The blades being pivotally positioned at the distal end of a shaft assembly. A shaft housing being substantially disposed about the shaft assembly. The proximal end of the shaft assembly being operatively engaged by a control device which when rotated allows the blades to be fully retracted for insertion into a pre-bored hole and then to be expanded incrementally until the cavity is bored as desired.
