A system is disclosed herein for providing a kinetic assessment and preparation of a prosthetic joint comprising one or more prosthetic components. The system comprises a prosthetic component including sensors and circuitry configured to measure load, position of load on a curved surface, joint stability, range of motion, and impingement. In one embodiment, the system is for a cup and ball joint of a musculoskeletal system. The system further includes a computer having a display configured to graphical display quantitative measurement data to support rapid assimilation of the information. The kinetic assessment measures joint alignment under loading that will be similar to that of a final joint installation. The kinetic assessment can use trial or permanent prosthetic components. Furthermore, adjustments can be made to the applied load magnitude, position of load, and joint alignment by various means to fine-tune an installation.

Measurement system configured to support installation of a ball and socket joint and method therefor

A measurement system comprising a measurement device and a computer. The measurement device is configured to measure a force, pressure, or load applied by the musculoskeletal system. The measurement device comprises an enclosure and a structure configured to fit within an opening in the enclosure. The enclosure is hermetically sealed housing electronic circuitry and at least one sensor. The structure is configured to couple to the musculoskeletal system. At least three sensors underlie and couple to the structure to measure a force, pressure, or load applied to a surface of the structure. The structure includes at least three anti-cantilevering structures. At least one of the three anti-cantilevering structures is configured to couple to the enclosure to limit canting of the structure when the musculoskeletal system couples to the surface of the structure outside a predetermined area.

Orthopedic measurement system

A medical sensor is disclosed for mounting within a medical device. In one embodiment, more than one medical sensor is mounted to a printed circuit board using surface mount technology to accurately place the medical sensors in predetermined positions. The medical sensor is a sensor for measuring a force, pressure, or load. The medical sensor is manufactured in a process that supports consistency, matching, reliability, and performance. The medical sensor comprises a substrate, a dielectric layer overlying the substrate, and four strain gauges overlying the dielectric layer. Interconnect and pads are formed overlying the dielectric layer. The interconnect couples the four strain gauges into a full bridge Poisson gauge and couples the pads to the full bridge Poisson gauge. The active strain gauges are placed in a predetermined location on the substrate that support measurement of a force, pressure, or load applied to the substrate.

Ball and socket joint system and method therefor

Systems and methods for spatial tracking using a hybrid signal are disclosed. A method for spatial tracking using a hybrid signal may include: receiving, from a peripheral unit and via an antenna array of a central unit, a signal that includes inertial measurement data from an inertial measurement unit (IMU) of the peripheral unit, and a constant tone extension (CTE); determining, based on the CTE, direction data for the peripheral unit; and determining, based on the direction data and the inertial measurement data, spatial tracking data for the peripheral unit.

Systems and methods for spatial tracking

A selection system comprises a ring, a plurality of shims, a measurement device, and at least one glenoid component. The ring is configured to couple to a humerus. A shim of the plurality of shims is configured to couple to the ring. The measurement device is configured to couple to the shim. Each shim of the plurality of shims has a different height when coupled to the ring. The selection system generates measurement data to support the selection of at least one prosthetic component for a shoulder joint in a surgical environment. The shoulder joint geometry can be adjusted by changing shims, changing glenoid component or both. The selection system is removed after the selection of the final prosthetic components for the shoulder joint. The final prosthetic components are installed in the shoulder joint. The measurement device is placed in the shoulder joint and measurement data is generated to verify performance.
