Aspects of the subject disclosure may include, for example, a device that determines each of a default downlink forwarding address of a first interface of a user plane and a currently used downlink forwarding address of the first interface of the user plane. One of an uplink user data packet comprising an origination address of a second interface of the user plane, a downlink user data packet comprising a destination address of the second interface of the user plane or both are received, by way of the user plane. One of the default downlink forwarding address, the currently used downlink forwarding address or both can be modified based on the uplink origination address, the destination address or both. Modification of the default downlink forwarding address, the currently used downlink forwarding address or both results in a redirection of an associated packet flow within the user plane. Other embodiments are disclosed.

System and methods for managing a user data path

Initiation of a network slice event is disclosed. The network slice event can be initiated in response to, and according to a determined a network slice event instruction. The network slice event can result in modification of network slices of a network. The modification of the network slices can correspond to a change in the performance of the network. The modification of the network slices can comprise adding a new slice, removing an existing slice, adapting an existing slice, etc. Artificial intelligence, machine learning, etc., can be employed to provide an inference related to determining the network slice event instruction. The slice event can be implemented via a network controller, for example an ONAP component, based on the network slice event instruction.

Automated network design and traffic steering

The described technology is generally directed towards automated acceptance testing of network functions so that only certified network functions are deployed in a wireless network. When a network function attempts to register in a network, e.g., with a network function repository, the registration attempt triggers a workflow that obtains a result of automated testing of the network function. The automated testing operation can be based on a test suite selected according to the network function type and the network slice in which the network function is to be deployed. Only upon determining that the network function passed the automated testing operation is the network function registered (by the network function repository) for operation in the wireless network.

Automated certification of network functions

A method includes receiving, at a server connected to a network, a plurality of emergency alerts from a plurality of devices connected to the network. The method also includes analyzing, by the server, the plurality of emergency alerts to determine an emergency type of each of the plurality of emergency alerts. The method includes categorizing, by the server, the plurality of emergency alerts based on the emergency type of each of the plurality of emergency alerts. The method includes prioritizing a first category of the plurality of emergency alerts and consolidating the plurality of emergency alerts of the first category into a consolidated alert. The method includes causing the consolidated alert to be provided to an emergency responder.

Concepts and technologies disclosed herein are directed to policy driven emergency traffic handling for machine-to-machine ('M2M') device communication. According to one aspect of the concepts and technologies disclosed herein, an M2M application server can receive a plurality of emergency messages from a mobility management entity ('MME') over a control plane interface. The plurality emergency message can be generated by a plurality of M2M devices in response to an emergency event. The M2M application server can filter, based upon a policy, the plurality of emergency messages to remove duplicate messages of the plurality of emergency messages in order to create a clean group of emergency messages. The M2M application server can forward the clean group of emergency messages to at least one public safety answering point (&#x201c;PSAP&#x201d;).

Policy driven emergency traffic handling for machine-to-machine device communication

A system and method for transferring e911 calls between a 3GPP network and a non-3GPP network. The method includes connecting an emergency communication between a mobile device and an emergency service, receiving, from the mobile device, an indication to handoff the communication from a first network to a second network; and transferring the communication from the first network to the second network while maintaining continuity of the communication.
