A flow control valve is provided including a valve aperture in a valve body configured to convey fuel from an inlet to an outlet, a valve element configured to close the valve aperture to block flow of the fuel, a valve actuator configured to shift the position of the valve element between a closed position and an open position, and an antifraud circuit. The antifraud circuit is configured to receive a signal to open the flow control valve, determine if the signal is legitimate based on a signal characteristic, cause the flow control valve to shift to the open position in response to determining that the signal is legitimate.

A fuel dispenser includes a power distribution system having an alternating current (AC) power supply and an AC to direct current (DC) power converter configured to convert a portion of the AC power to DC power for one or more DC peripheral components associated with the fuel dispenser. The power distribution system also includes processing circuitry configured to power down at least one of the DC peripheral components in response to an actuator, cause an indicator to be activated indicating that the DC peripheral components are de-energized and the AC power supply is active, power up the at least one direct current peripheral component in response to the actuator when the direct current peripherals are de-energized, and cause the indicator to be activated to indicate that both the DC peripheral components and the AC power supply are active.

A fueling environment communication system for providing high bandwidth information via existing field wiring to a plurality of forecourt devices. The communication system according to this aspect comprises a back room communication module having a first plurality of Ethernet ports for connection to external devices using Ethernet communication and a second plurality of Ethernet ports. The back room communication module further comprises a plurality of modulation interface devices each connected on a first side to a respective one of the second plurality of Ethernet ports. A summing and isolation module having a high pass filter is connected to each of the modulation interface devices on a second side thereof to pass a modulated high frequency signal. The summing and isolation module further has a low pass filter through which low frequency legacy data can be passed and combined with said modulated high frequency signal. In addition, summing and isolation module is connectable via existing field wiring to communicate with forecourt devices in point-to-point fashion.

A fuel dispenser has internal fuel flow piping, a flow meter located along the internal fuel flow piping, and a displacement sensor operatively connected to the flow meter to generate information representative of an amount of fuel passing through the flow meter. The fuel dispenser also has a control system comprising a memory. In embodiments, however, the control system does not comprise a real-time clock. The fuel dispenser also comprises a synchronization module in electronic communication with the control system. The synchronization module comprises at least one antenna configured to receive a carrier wave modulated with synchronization information. Methods for obtaining accurate time information at the fuel dispenser are also disclosed.

Methods and systems for detecting tampering of a remote display. According to one method, a first data integrity result is generated by performing a first data integrity operation on display data to be displayed on the remote display at a secure module. The display data is transmitted from the secure module to the remote display security module. The remote display security module receives the display data. A second data integrity result is generated by performing the first data integrity operation on the display data received at the remote display security module. A determination is made as to whether the remote display has been tampered with at the secure module if the first data integrity result does not match the second data integrity result.

The present invention relates to a LCD display that has a thin depth, rigid enclosure and includes a thin speaker so that the depth of the enclosure does not have to be increased to accommodate the speaker. The speaker is used to generate audio output that may correlate to the graphical information displayed on the LCD display. The enclosure has an opening for inclusion of a semi-rigid lens for viewing of an internal LCD module that is also used as a planar surface for the thin speaker. In order to provide a thin device in the enclosure that is driven by a driver to move air to generate sound, the driver is attached to the semi-rigid lens.

A vending machine containing one or more racks that contain stacked products to be vended to customers. An array of capacitive switches or capacitive switches are aligned on one or more racks. The capacitive switches are each aligned with the height of a product to be vended. A controller coupled to the array of capacitive switches senses the presence or lack thereof of a product in the rack, and correlates this presence or absence to a height and/or inventory count of products in the racks. The vending machine, using the controller and communication electronics, may communicate the height and/or inventory count of products in the racks to a device located outside of the vending machine, such as a hand-held computing device and/or a management system, over a communication link.

The present invention provides a fuel dispenser capable of sensing the proximity or location of a customer relative to the fuel dispenser without requiring direct customer contact and controlling the display or aspects of the display accordingly to conserve energy, reduce heat generation or draw the customer's attention to the display once the customer is within a relative proximity to the fuel dispenser.

An automated payment system for use in a service station. The system includes at least one fuel dispenser for dispensing fuel and having a user interface for directing how payment for the fuel is to be processed. The system also includes a payment terminal positioned in proximity to the fuel dispenser for receiving the payments. The terminal has rigid outer walls forming an enclosed interior section for housing the payments. In one embodiment, the terminal has rigid outer walls forming a substantially H-shape with two indents positioned on the exterior of the payment terminal. A pair of support posts are firmly mounted within the indents for securing the payment terminal in position. Mounting mechanisms may attach the payment terminal to the support post and be positioned such that they are contained within the terminal and post to restrict access.

A single meter blending fuel dispensing system utilizing a pair of proportional flow control valves each having a pressure transducer positioned aft of the valve flow control mechanism. A computer controller is used to program a desired fuel mixture by varying the pressure for each flow control valve. A pressure decrease in one valve produces a corresponding pressure increase in the other valve. A third pressure transducer can be situated downstream of the valves and is set such that the pressure it receives cannot exceed that of the two valve pressures. Flow meters can be substituted for the pressure sensors. A calibration method for calibrating the positive displacement meter is also disclosed. At installation the positive displacement meter is at its most accurate and is synchronized with the less accurate pressure sensors or flow meters. As time passes and the positive displacement meter wears it can be re-calibrated using the baseline data and the pressure sensors or flow meters which are not subject to mechanical wear.

The present invention relates to a thermal management system for a thin depth LCD display enclosure. The LCD display enclosure may be used in environmentally sensitive conditions and may be environmentally-sealed to protect the components of the LCD display from environmental conditions. The LCD display components may include a lens and a LCD module, and other heating producing components, such as backlights and electronic circuitry. The heat producing components and any external heat placed on the enclosure causes the ambient air temperature inside the enclosure to rise thereby possibly causing the LCD display to not operate properly. The ambient air temperature inside the enclosure is lowered by transferring heat in the ambient air through the enclosure to a heat sink that is attached on the outside rear portion of the enclosure, and to the atmosphere using forced convection, natural convention, or both.
