Scanners with wakeup systems are disclosed herein. An example scanner assembly includes a wakeup system having an infrared (IR) transmitter configured to project IR illumination through a window of the scanner and an IR receiver. The IR receiver has a second field-of-view (FOV) directed through the window that overlaps a first FOV of an imaging assembly of the scanner by at least 50% at the window and has a second central axis that is non-perpendicular to the window such that the second central axis is tilted downward from horizontal with the scanner assembly positioned in a vertical first configuration where the window is in a generally upright orientation. A controller of the scanner is configured to activate an illumination system when the IR receiver detects IR illumination reflected from an object in the second FOV of the IR receiver.

Scanner assembly with wakeup system

An imaging device includes a housing having an optically transmissive window, a first imaging assembly, and a second imaging assembly. A second imaging sensor of the second imaging assembly is positioned within a bottom portion of the housing height and a front portion of the housing depth. The second imaging sensor may be positioned in either a landscape orientation or a portrait orientation. A downstream region is defined between a downstream side of a first field of view of the first imaging sensor and a downstream side of a second field of view of the second imaging sensor to allow the imaging device to determine whether an indicia associated with a product captured within the downstream region was previously captured in the first field of view, thereby facilitating detection of scan avoidance or ticket switching.

Single plane slot scanner support for vision camera configurations

A slot scanner illumination system for a convertible slot scanner assembly includes a chassis having an optical cavity and a front opening. The optical cavity has an optical axis therethrough, with the optical axis being an axis along which light may be received by the chassis through the front opening. The front opening further has a first edge and a second edge opposite the first edge. A scanning window is configured to at least partially cover the front opening of the chassis, and the scanning window has a normal axis orthogonal to a flat surface of the scanning window. An illumination element is disposed inside of the optical cavity of the chassis. The illumination element is disposed proximal the first edge of the front opening. The illumination element is configured to provide illumination along an illumination axis, wherein the illumination axis is non-parallel with the optical axis and at an angle directed toward the second edge of the front opening.

Illumination system optimized for vertical and horizontal slot scanners

Scanning assemblies are disclosed herein. An example scanning assembly includes a slot scanner and a mounting system. The slot scanner includes an imaging assembly configured to capture an image frame appearing in a field of view (FOV) and a housing having a cavity configured to accommodate the imaging assembly. The mounting system includes a flange member at least partially surrounding an opening formed within the mounting system, and at least two support arms extending from the flange. The at least two support arms engage a portion of the housing of the slot scanner to retain the slot scanner within the opening formed by the flange.

Mounting system for industrial digital barcode reader

Slot scanners with wakeup systems are disclosed herein. An example slot scanner assembly includes a wakeup system having an infrared (IR) transmitter configured to project IR illumination through a window of the slot scanner and an IR receiver. A method and apparatus for capturing an image of at least one object appearing in a field of view (FOV). A housing has an image sensor and a base lens assembly fixedly mounted relative thereto. A moveable lens assembly is movably mounted relative to the housing. The moveable lens, the base lens assembly, and the image sensor are aligned such that light received within the FOV passes through the moveable lens and the base lens assembly and impinges onto the image sensor. The light received from the FOV forms an original image prior to entering the movable lens and the base assembly. Light from the FOV impinging onto the sensor forms an impinging image.

Imaging devices having progressive magnification

An imaging module for reading targets by image capture is mounted as a unitary assembly within an imaging reader. An imager is mounted on a first printed circuit board (PCB), and an interface connector is mounted on a second PCB. The first PCB is in supporting contact with first chassis walls of a chassis and is positioned to lie in a generally upright, first predetermined plane. The second PCB is in supporting contact with second chassis walls of the chassis and is positioned to lie in a generally tilted, second predetermined plane that is inclined at a tilt angle relative to the first predetermined plane. The first and second chassis walls are constituted as a one-piece support that maintains the tilt angle between the PCBs.

An imaging module for reading targets by image capture is mounted as a unitary assembly within an imaging reader. An imager is mounted on a first printed circuit board (PCB), and an interface connector is mounted on a second PCB. The first PCB is in direct, surface-area contact with first chassis walls of a chassis and is positioned to lie in a generally upright, first predetermined plane. The second PCB is in direct, surface-area contact with second chassis walls of the chassis and is positioned to lie in a generally tilted, second predetermined plane that is inclined at a tilt angle relative to the first predetermined plane. The first and second chassis walls are constituted as a one-piece support that maintains the tilt angle between the PCBs.

A compact, rugged, environmentally-sealed, electrically non-conductive, antenna radome protects an antenna of a handheld radio frequency (RF) identification (RFID) reader operative for scanning RFID tags. A rear housing is directly connected to a front housing, each constituted of an electrically non-conductive material. A support structure in the housings supports the antenna to enable RF signals to be transmitted or received by the antenna forwardly through the housings during scanning without being detuned by electrically conductive materials and electrically conductive fasteners located forwardly of the antenna. A seal environmentally seals the antenna inside the housings.

A cordless, electro-optical reader is compatibly docked with different docking stations having station contacts located at different locations. A rechargeable battery is mounted in a housing that extends along a longitudinal axis. Multiple housing contacts are located on the housing. Some housing contacts conduct electrical power to recharge the battery; other housing contacts conduct electrical signals to and from a controller. Each housing contact has one exposed contact portion facing in a first direction, e.g., axially along the longitudinal axis, to make electro-mechanical contact with station contacts located at one location of one docking station, and another exposed contact portion facing in a different second direction, e.g., transversely of the longitudinal axis, to make electro-mechanical contact with station contacts located at another location of another docking station.

Arrangement for and method of compatibly docking a cordless electro-optical reader with different docking stations

A checkout system includes a clerk-operated, bi-optical workstation through which products associated with targets having target data to be electro-optically captured are passed, and a customer-operated, accessory reader having an accessory window and a data capture assembly for capturing additional target data of additional targets associated with transaction-related items. A method and apparatus for defining the illumination field of view of a barcode reader. The method includes (1) generating an illumination with an illumination source; (2) directing the illumination with an illumination lens to pass through an aperture to generate an illumination pattern directed toward a target object and to define an illumination field of view with the aperture; and (3) focusing light reflected from the target object onto a photosensor array with an imaging lens in an imaging system.

Method and apparatus for defining illumination field of view of barcode reader

An apparatus includes a light emitting diode operative to emit mostly invisible light within an invisible bandwidth, and a scattering surface configured to scatter a first portion of the invisible light from the light emitting diode out of the window. The scattering surface is also partially transparent to allow a second portion of the invisible light from the light emitting diode to pass through the scattering surface and strike the reflector that is configured to reflect at least some of the second portion of the invisible light towards the window. The apparatus further includes a photodetector configured to detect returned invisible light from the target object.

A checkout system includes a workstation having a first workstation window located in a generally horizontal plane and a second workstation window located in a generally upright plane. The workstation includes a data capture arrangement for capturing through at least one of the workstation windows target data of targets associated with the products.
