Apparatus and methods are disclosed for handling a plurality of tubes or vials, and for applying and removing caps to and from tubes or vials, which may be disposed in a rack. The apparatus and methods are well adapted for automated capping and de-capping using generic or off-the-shelf tubes, vials, and caps, such as are commonly used for laboratory samples and reagents.

Apparatus and methods for handling tubes or vials

The subject matter provided herein relates to substrates for desorbing and ionizing analytes, and kits and methods of use thereof. The substrate provided herein comprises a porous semiconductor, a fluorous initiator, and a photoactive compound containing a fluorous group.

Substrate compositions and methods of use thereof

A motor with associated load sensor is connected to a circulation pump of a swimming pool circulation system. The load sensor performs the function of a safety vacuum release system by detecting underload of the motor. Underload is now discovered to be reliably indicative of blockage on the intake side of a circulation pump. A switch controlled by the load sensor shuts off the motor in response to a suitable underload. Vacuum on the intake side of the circulation pump neutralizes, thereby freeing a person or object blocking the suction line.

Load sensor safety vacuum release system

A racket swing training apparatus providing a user-chosen static positioning of a tennis racket in the hand, at angles to the forearm, which are determinable and repeatable. The device further provides components to set the face angle of the racket engaged to the device and visual indica to allow for the same positioning in subsequent uses. A planar member is removably engageable in a translatable engagement with a cuff adapted for engagement to the user's forearm. The planar member has an aperture opposite the cuff which is adapted to encircle the grip of a racket and sized to prevent rotation of the racket axis past predetermined limits relative to the axis of the planar member.

Apparatus and method for tennis swing training

A racket grip training apparatus providing user chosen static positioning of a tennis racket in the hand at angles to the forearm that are determinable and repeatable. The device further provides components to set the face angle of the racket engaged to the device and visual indica to allow for the same positioning in subsequent uses. A planar member is removably engageable to the user's forearm at a first end and has an aperture at an opposite end adapted to encircle the grip of a racket and sized to prevent rotation of the racket axis past predetermined limits relative to the axis of the planar member.

An automatic heat exchanger tempering valve designed to maintain a consistent temperature of a fluid within a machine. The tempering valve is configured to sense fluid temperature and in response, to proportion the flow of the fluid from the machine between a heat exchanger and an either internal or external by-pass flow circuit. The valve includes a movable valve diverter positionable in multiple positions to create a variety of proportionate flows of the total fluid flow stream between the heat exchanger and the by-pass flow circuit. The valve diverter is positioned by a multiple position valve actuator that changes the position of the diverter by reacting to a change in fluid temperature. The valve and the bypass flow circuit are easily installed within a motor vehicle by simply splicing into the two radiator hoses in the engine compartment.

Heat exchanger tempering valve

A flow blockage suction interrupt of the present invention reduces the dangerous possibility of bodily suction entrapment of a bather in a swimming, wading, or hydrotherapy pool. The safety valve operates to instantaneously introduce atmosphere into a suction piping system of a pool when a dangerous vacuum condition is detected. The incoming atmosphere breaks the vacuum, freeing entrapped bather. The safety valve includes a dynamic plug and dual spring-loaded actuators, one closing and one opening the valve to atmosphere. The closing actuator is dominant until the opening actuator is triggered by the dangerously high vacuum level that accompanies bodily suction entrapment. The preferred embodiment incorporates a spring-loaded telescopic actuator shaft that is spring-loaded to open fully once triggered, and is triggered by a factory-calibrated diaphragm-actuated suction sensor. Once this safety valve has been tripped, it must be manually reset by the pool operator.

Flow blockage suction interrupt valve

A serviceable multiport conversion system for a conventional butterfly valve includes two fittings. A first 'T' fitting contains two passageways which join at an internal common bore adjacent a separating wall, the wall defining a secondary seat of the multiport valve. Circumscribing the common bore is an annular flange. A second fitting may be a similar 'T' fitting or an 'L' fitting. The 'L' fitting contains a single passageway which terminates at an internal bore circumscribed an annular flange. In use, the butterfly valve is removably positioned in sealing engagement between two fittings, with the flanges releasably attached and the inner diameters of the flanges co-extensive with the butterfly valve bore. When a butterfly valve is positioned between an 'L' fitting and a 'T' fitting and the valve is in its closed position, there is no fluid communication between the passageway of the 'L' fitting and the passageways of the 'T' fitting. When the valve is in its open position, fluid communication exists between the passageway of the 'L' fitting and one of the 'T' fitting's passageways. When a butterfly valve is positioned between two 'T' fittings and the valve is in a closed position, fluid communication is allowed between passageway pairs of each 'T' fitting but not between fittings. When the butterfly valve is in an open position, fluid communication does not exist between passageway pairs of a single fitting, but does exist between one passageway of one fitting fittings and the adjacent passageway of the other fitting.

Multiport conversion system for butterfly valve

A water filtration technique is designed to maximize the efficient performance of a variety of granular filtration media. The technique maintains the granular filtration media in a compacted state between a perforated outer media container and a perforated inner media container, where the perforated inner media container is a smaller similitude of the perforated outer media container. In the preferred embodiment of the filtration device of the present invention, the perforated outer and inner media containers are substantially spherical. By maintaining the granular filtration media in a static-state throughout filtration, highly efficient filtration is achieved. In contrast, during the backwash function, the normal inward flow is reversed to outward radial flow and granular filtration media is agitated, fluidized and quickly and vigorously cleaned. A plurality of high-velocity centrally-located water jets create the outward radial flow during backwashing.

Translucent and opaque graphics are mounted on transparent sheets and laminated to form a net ball game scoring device designed specifically for but not limited to the game of volleyball. The device is designed to be mounted to the net for quick reference and access by the players. Score indicators have a common axis and are color coded to differentiate the team's scores. Utilizing translucent graphics, the score indicators change color when the score is tied. The dynamic score indicators are contained internally in the transparent laminate so they cannot be accidentally changed. The two dynamic score indicators' positions are changed by dialing them through one of two slots located on opposite faces of the device so as each team has access only to its own score indicator.

Volleyball scoreboard

A multiport valve with union plumbing connections utilizing a disc diverter of diameter larger than the valve's flow port diameter permanently housed in a spherical two piece welded housing that yields a nonserviceable but easily replaced multiport valve with low resistance. With removable plugs having surfaces shaped to correspond with the interior of the valve, the valve configuration can be changed from four ports to three or two ports at any time. Two external valve coupling flanges located normal to the ports together with clamps and a drop through actuator shaft allow multiple valve operation by a common shaft. An offset indexing spline located in the disc diverter's actuator shaft hole together with an ivertable valve body design allow relative positioning of valve diverters to be either parallel or perpendicular in multiple valves/common shaft configurations. The combination of this valve's features facilitates welding valve housing halves together to provide a versatile multiport valve system with easily replaced components.

Full flow multiport butterfly valve

An apparatus for circulating water in a swimming pool including a strainer that is connected to a swimming pool unfiltered intake with a pump connected to the strainer for pumping water from the strainer to a filter. The filter in turn is connected to a swimming pool filtered return for depositing the filtered water into the swimming pool. The invention includes a valve connected to the pump, strainer and filter for temporarily altering the flow of water from the swimming pool drain to the pump and back through the strainer in a direction that is opposite to the flow of water from the swimming pool drain to a waste drain. A method for cleaning the residue collected by a strainer in a swimming pool water circulation system is also included that also includes altering the flow of water from the swimming pool intake to a pump, in order that the pump may pump water in a direction opposite to the normal flow of water through a strainer to remove particles contained in the strainer. The altered flow of water containing the particles from the strainer is then directed to a waste drain.

Apparatus for cleaning a swimming pool strainer

An apparatus for circulating water in a swimming pool including a strainer that is connected to a swimming pool unfiltered intake with a pump connected to the strainer for pumping water from the strainer to a filter. The filter in turn is connected to the swimming pool filtered return for depositing the filtered water into the swimming pool. The invention includes a valve connected to the pump strainer and filter for temporarily altering a flow of water from the swimming pool unfiltered intake or the filtered return to the pump and back through the strainer in a manner to provide a flow of water across the surface of the strainer to remove debris contained upon the strainer surface. A method for cleaning the residue collected by a strainer in a swimming pool water circulation system is also included that includes altering the flow of water from a swimming pool unfiltered intake to a pump and through the strainer in a manner to remove particles collected on the surface of the strainer. The altered flow of water containing the particles from the strainer is then directed to waste.
