A multipurpose compostable absorption mat serves to receive and encapsulate organic matter for compostable disintegration of the mat and organic matter simultaneously. The mat comprises at least three portions: a first portion facing the organic matter defined by a parchment paper or parchment-like material having multiple pinholes or other openings or porosity sized and dimensioned to enable passage of greases and/or liquids; a second portion outboard of the first portion defined by a deliquescent material, and is able to absorb the greases and/or liquids from the first portion through a capillary mechanism; and a third portion outboard of the second portion defined by an impermeable plant/corn starch-based plastic-like material. The third portion looks and feels like plastic film. The at least three portions of the mat may be formed as at least three discrete layers, with the three discrete layers attached to one another so as to form the mat, with the mat having a thickness in the range from about that of a sheet of paper or a paper towel or a napkin to about ¾″ or more.

Multipurpose compostable absorption mat

A system to perform marine surveying may include a pair of identical design autonomous marine survey vehicles configured for coordinated operations. The vehicles may navigate and transit from a launch location to a geographically distant designated survey location, continuously survey and transit to a designated recovery location. A pair of vehicles may operate interchangeably at the sea surface, semi-submerged and underwater. Each may generate energy when operating at the surface and store energy in a rechargeable battery to power vehicle operation. The payload may include a sensor system to acquire seabed sensor data. A data storage system may store the sensor data. An on-board payload quality control system may analyze data validity. Positioning when the vehicle is collecting seabed sensor data may be determined with high precision, to provide survey data of high precision.

Autonomous surface and subsurface marine vehicle survey system, marine vehicle for same, and method of use

A plurality of individually addressable electrodes is supported by a housing. The individually addressable electrodes are for at least one of applying stimulation electrical signals to skin of a user and detecting biometric electrical signals from the skin of the user. At least one of a signal detector is provided for detecting the biometric electrical signals and a signal generator is provided for generating the stimulation electrical signals. An electrode multiplex circuit is provided for addressing the plurality of individually addressable electrodes by at least one of routing the biometric electrical signals from the skin of the user through more than one of the plurality of individually addressable electrodes to the signal detector and routing the stimulation electrical signals from the signal generator through more than one of the plurality of individually addressable electrode to the skin of the user. A microprocessor is provided for controlling at least one of the signal detector, the signal generator, the electrode multiplex circuit.

A tracking system includes a target unit having a GPS receiver, a signal transmitter to send a signal including a position of the target unit; and a processor to calculate an optimal time interval for transmission of the signal. A locating unit has a GPS signal receiver, a compass to provide a reference direction of the locating unit, a signal receiver to receive the signal sent by the transmitter of the target unit, a processor to calculate a range and bearing from the locating unit to the target unit, and an indicator to display the range and bearing. In certain preferred embodiments, the processor calculates a confidence level indicating the reliability of the signal being sent.
