A patterned conductive article includes a substrate having a first groove therein; a conductive seed layer disposed in the first groove; and a unitary conductive body disposed at least partially in the first groove. The conductive seed layer covers at least a majority of a bottom surface of the first groove, and the unitary conductive body covers the conductive seed layer and at least a majority of side surfaces of the first groove. In a plane through the unitary conductive body that is parallel to and separate from the conductive seed layer, the unitary conductive body has a lower first line edge roughness at a first interface with the side surfaces and the conductive seed layer has a higher second line edge roughness at an edge of the conductive seed layer.

Patterned conductive article

A patterned article includes a unitary polymeric layer and a plurality of electrically conductive elements embedded at least partially in the unitary polymeric layer. Each electrically conductive element includes a conductive seed layer having a top major surface and an opposite bottom major surface in direct contact with the unitary polymeric layer, and includes a metallic body disposed on the top major surface of the conductive seed layer. The metallic body has a bottom major surface and at least one sidewall. The bottom major surface contacts the conductive seed layer. Each sidewall is in direct contact with the unitary polymeric layer and extends from the bottom major surface of the metallic body toward or to, but not past, a top major surface of the unitary polymeric layer. The conductive elements may be electrically isolated from one another. Processes for making the patterned article are described.

A patterned conductive articleincludes a substrateincluding a unitary layer-and includes a micropattern of conductive tracesembedded at least partially in the unitary layer. Each conductive trace extends along a longitudinal direction (y-direction) of the conductive trace and includes a conductive seed layerhaving a top major surfaceand an opposite bottom major surfacein direct contact with the unitary layer; and a unitary conductive bodydisposed on the top major surface of the conductive seed layer. The unitary conductive body and the conductive seed layer differ in at least one of composition or crystal morphology. The unitary conductive body has lateral sidewallsand at least a majority of a total area of the lateral sidewalls is in direct contact with the unitary layer.

The multilayer polymer optical film may optionally also include a protective layer(for example, a hardcoat or an over laminate) that is positioned between the viewer and the core layer. The protective layermay include one or more UV absorbers to aid in durability of the multilayer polymer optical film against UV-degradation. Multilayer polymer optical filmmay optionally also include an adhesive layerthat is positioned between the core layerand a surface onto which the multilayer polymer optical film is to be adhered.

More specifically, polarizing beam splitters and systems with such beam splitters that incorporate multilayer optical films and reflect imaged light towards a viewer or viewing screen with high effective resolution are described.

Polarizing beam splitter plates and systems incorporating such beam splitter plates are described. The polarizing beam splitter plate includes a first substrate and a multilayer optical film reflective polarizer that is disposed on the first substrate. The polarizing beam splitter plate includes a first outermost major surface and an opposing second outermost major surface that makes an angle of less than about 20 degrees with the first outermost major surface. The polarizing beam splitter plate is adapted to reflect an imaged light received from an imager towards a viewer or screen with the reflected imaged light having an effective pixel resolution of less than 12 microns.

The present disclosure provides an integrated optical component array and method of making an integrated optical component array useful for projection devices or other optical devices. The integrated optical component array can be a PBS array fabricated such that the individual PBS cubes having several elements can be assembled in a massively parallel manner and then singulated as individual optical components, and can result in a large reduction in manufacturing cost.

Integrated optical component and method of making

The present disclosure describes optical elements and optical devices that use the optical elements to allow the output of two imagers to be combined onto a single optical axis. Each of the two imagers can be based on alternate polarization directions, and the disclosed embodiments can enable high contrast 3D projectors without requiring either time or polarization sequencing. The present disclosure further describes projection systems that include the optical devices.
