An injection mouldable material and a method of making the material wherein the material comprises a mixture of an injection-mouldable polymer and a dielectric substance having a relatively high dielectric constant. The dielectric substance is preferably a ceramic. Such material is particularly suitable for the manufacture of planar antennas. The polymer preferably has a loss tangent equal to or less than 0.01 and greater than or equal to 0.002.

An antenna comprises a reference plane,, a conductive polygonal lamina,disposed opposing the reference plane, and a feed section,coupled to the reference plane and the lamina. The feed section,is arranged as a transmission line. The feed section may comprise at least two planar conductors,arrange parallel to each other, one of the planar conductors,being connected to the feed and the other of the conductors,being connected to the reference. The feed section may be in the form of a coplanar strip.

An antenna is formed from a metal sheet partitioned by a slot. A corner of the metal sheet is short-circuited, and a field is coupled to the antenna near to the short circuit corner. The slot extends from a point near the field, across the metal sheet to an opposite corner to the short circuit corner. The metal sheet may be supported over air, or by a solid dielectric substrate.
