Provided herein are processes for locating wireless emitters. The processes provided may include use of an apparatus that includes a signal processing circuit configured to obtain a reference signal and a target signal, and process the reference signal and target signal to determine and output a reference channel value and a target channel value. The processes provided may also include use of an apparatus that includes a signal processing circuit configured to obtain a pair of reference channel values and a pair of target channel values, process the reference channel values and pair of target channel values to determine a phase-difference metric, and process the phase-difference metric to determine a set of spatial location coordinates. The set of spatial location coordinates may correspond to a location of a target emitter.

Geolocating wireless emitters

A high rate radio frequency (RF) link system and method for spatially multiplexing data transmission is presented. The system can comprise a common communications point characterized by a first collection of antennas having independent channels interconnected with a known latency connection to a central process location, such as with optical fiber; and a second similarly configured collective endpoint or set of endpoints wherein multi-path between the first collection and the second collection is negligible. Signal decorrelation between independent channels is achieved through a combination of spatial separation and signal processing. In one aspect, decorrelation is performed using near-maximum likelihood Multiple-Input Multiple-Output signal processing.

High rate RF link technology utilizing near-maximum likelihood MIMO signal processing

A directional notch filter for simultaneous transmit and receive of wideband signals comprises an antenna, an antenna match, a receiver, a power combiner, a first directional coupler, a second directional coupler and a shaping filter accepting a signal and producing a compensation signal as a replica of an antenna reflection transfer function, wherein the first and second directional couplers produce signals and portions of signals received by the antenna and sent to the receiver via the power combiner. The receiver can produce a receiver signal and the first directional coupler can produce a first signal as a portion of an overall signal received by the antenna, the first signal comprising at least reflection of a signal from the power amplifier and the second directional coupler samples a small portion of the receiver signal, said second directional coupler producing a second signal.

Directional notch filter for simultaneous transmit and receive of wideband signals

Methods and systems in a wireless receiver for enabling the reception of input signals at varied power levels in the presence of co-channel interference utilizing combinations of space-time adaptive processing, interference cancellation multi-user detection, and combined techniques. In multi-user detection, code, timing, and possibly channel information of multiple users are jointly used to better detect each individual user. The novel combination of adaptive signal reconstruction techniques with interference cancellation techniques provides accurate temporal cancellation of interference with minimal interference residuals.

Successive interference cancellation

An adaptive wireless multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) system switches among two or more modes of operation including Uninformed Transmitter (UT) and Informed Transmitter (IT) modes based on channel conditions as reflected in a set of metrics including a temporal selectivity metric (TSM) indicative of the temporal dynamics of the MIMO channel. In an exemplary embodiment, the adaptive MIMO system uses a dominant eigenmode IT mode of operation if a signal-to-noise ratio is below a threshold, otherwise, the system uses an IT mode or a UT mode based on the TSM. If the TSM indicates a channel that is changing too rapidly for feedback to be effective, the UT mode is used, otherwise the IT mode is used. Overall system capacity in time varying MIMO channels is thereby improved.

System for MIMO spatial adaptivity in dynamic environments

Methods and systems in a wireless receiver for enabling the reception of input signals at varied power levels in the presence of co-channel interference utilizing combinations of space-time adaptive processing (STAP), interference cancellation multi-user detection (MUD), and combined STAP/MUD techniques. In MUD, code, timing, and possibly channel information of multiple users are jointly used to better detect each individual user. The novel combination of adaptive signal reconstruction techniques with interference cancellation MUD techniques provides accurate temporal cancellation of interference with minimal interference residuals. Additional methods and systems extend adaptive signal reconstruction techniques to take Doppler spread into account. STAP techniques permit a wireless receiver to exploit multiple antenna elements to form beams in the direction of the desired signal and nulls in the direction of the interfering signals. The combined STAP-MUD methods and systems increase the probability of successful user detection by taking advantage of the benefits of each reception method. An additional method and system utilizes STAP techniques in the case where no pilot signal is available. This method compares the outputs of various hypothesized STAP solutions.

A STBICM MIMO receiver includes a plurality of demappers for demapping a plurality of complex symbols transmitted by a STBICM MIMO transmitter. Each demapper is configured to have one or more complex symbols associated therewith and is responsible for demapping its associated complex symbols.

Iterative STBICM MIMO receiver using group-wise demapping

A wireless Internet access system and method supports the transmission and reception of multiple types of traffic between mobile subscriber units and existing networks. A frame structure is used that can support the transmission of multiple types of traffic and adapt to changes in the traffic types needed and the amount of data for a particular traffic type. In addition, data transmission is performed using orthogonal frequency division multiplexing and differential phase shift keying to avoid intersymbol interference. Receiving units in the mobile subscriber units and existing networks include antenna arrays to provide a multipath transmission.

Wireless internet access system and method

A wireless Internet access system and method supports the transmission and reception of multiple types of traffic between mobile subscriber units and existing networks. A frame structure is used that can support the transmission of multiple types of traffic and adapt to changes in the traffic types needed and the amount of data for a particular traffic type. In addition, data transmission is performed using orthogonal frequency division multiplexing and differential phase shift keying to avoid inter-symbol interference. Receiving units in the mobile subscriber units and existing works include antenna arrays to provide a multipath transmission.

Reliable transferring of data between mobile wireless nodes positioned at two points in a wireless network occurs through the dynamic formation of transmit/receive groups that collectively establish reliable communications. A mobile node at each point creates a neighbor list by periodically probing its surroundings to discover nearby nodes with which it can relaibly communicate. Prior to establishing a route or transmitting data, a node A first probes a distant next point in the network to determine if it can reliably communicate with that point. Upon receiving this probe and knowing one's neighbors, the nodes at this distant point dynamically form a receive group and choose a controlling node. Members of the group individually receive all future data from node A and pass the received data to the controlling node, which combines the individual signals for reliable reception. Similary, the controlling node reliably transmits data to node A by having each member of the receive group transmit the data, node A then combining the signals. Lastly, the nodes neighboring node A can form a transmit/receive group to assist node A in communicating with the distant point.
