A method of operating a double deck elevator system when the trailing elevator deck (26,28) is empty, whereby the leading deck answers all registered hall calls except upon the occurrence of certain conditions.

Method for operating a double deck elevator car

An elevator system having a double-deck car (24) normally responds to unanswered up hall calls from intermediate floors with the upper deck (26), except, under one or more conditions, whereby a subsequent stop may be avoided, its lower deck (28) is utilized.

Method of operation for double-deck elevator system

A hitch assembly is disclosed for an elevator car suspended by hoist ropes and driven by a drive sheave. The hitch assembly having a hitch plate with openings for thimble rods, wherein geometrical planes bisecting the openings for the thimble rods are substantially coplanar with geometrical planes bisecting hoist rope grooved recesses in the drive sheave. Another feature of the present invention is a vibration isolation assembly for fastening the hitch plate to a mounting plate fixed to the elevator car, wherein the vibration isolation assembly isolates vibrations transmitted to the elevator car from the hoist ropes. Still another feature of the hitch assembly is a rope tension equalization assembly for fastening the hoist ropes to the hitch plate, wherein the rope tension equalization assembly equalizes tensions among the hoist ropes.

An automated arrangement selects one of a plurality of load weight bypass thresholds for an elevator car. The selection depends, for example, upon the car direction and the time of day. Alternative embodiments of the arrangement utilize in the selection either actual or estimated elevator car floor space. Fuzzy logic is used to estimate available floor space.
