A magnetic switch apparatus for detecting relative movement between first and second members comprises a switch assembly, a magnetic actuator, and an enclosure. The switch assembly mounts on the first member and is configured to shift between states. The magnetic actuator mounts on the second member and is configured to shift the switch assembly between states when the members change positions. The enclosure houses the switch assembly or the magnetic actuator on its respective member and includes a coupling structure configured to decouple from the respective member when the enclosure is shifted in a direction away from the respective member. The direction is at least partially toward the other member when the members are in a close position.

A security switch for detecting an actuator comprises a magnetic field source, a magnetically susceptible object, and a circuit. The magnetic field source is configured to produce a magnetic field gradient. The magnetically susceptible object is suspended at a first position at least in part due to the magnetic field gradient and shiftable to a second position when the actuator affects the magnetic field gradient. The circuit is configured to detect when the object is in the second position.

Small, low-profile magnetic switch assemblies () include a base () equipped with first and second laterally spaced apart switch electrodes, indentations () between the electrodes, and electrically conductive movable components (), which are magnetically shiftable between a first switch position in simultaneous contact with the base electrodes, and a second switch position out of such simultaneous contact. The switch position of the component () is determined by the magnetic field conditions experienced by the component (). The indentations () and associated shiftable components () permit the assemblies () to be constructed as comparatively tiny units, which may be mounted on circuit boards.

Compact magnetic switch for circuit boards

Tamper-resistant switch assemblies are provided including a first movement-sensing switch and a second tamper-sensing switch assembly, the latter including a switchable component and an actuating component. Preferably, the switch and switch assembly are housed within an encapsulated switch module, with the actuating component positioned above or to the side of the module. Mounting structure serves to support the module within a mounting opening and is operable to prevent removal of the switchable component and actuating component without significant relative shifting movement between the switchable component and actuating component. Any attempted tampering results in such relative shifting movement, thereby triggering an alarm.
