Novel corrosion inhibiting compositions comprising a combination of amino thiol or amino disulfide compounds with acidic amino acid polymers inhibit carbon dioxide induced corrosion of ferrous metals in aqueous systems. Particularly effective inhibitor compositions are the natural amino acids cysteine and cystine and their decarboxylated analogues cysteamine and cystamine in combination with polyaspartic acid. The inhibitor compositions are particularly useful for preventing corrosion and scale formation in oil production applications.

Composition for inhibition of metal corrosion

Carbon dioxide induced corrosion of ferrous metals in aqueous systems is inhibited by treatment of the aqueous system with corrosion inhibiting amino thiol and amino disulfide compounds. Particularly effective inhibitors are the natural amino acids cysteine and cystine and their decarboxylated analogues cysteamine and cystamine. Novel corrosion inhibiting compositions comprising a combination of amino thiol or amino disulfide compounds with acidic amino acid polymers are also disclosed.

Composition and method for inhibition of metal corrosion

A composition and method is disclosed for inhibiting the corrosion of metals in contact with an aqueous system capable of corroding the metal. The inventive composition contains a substantially water-soluble polymer of an acidic amino acid and at least one water-soluble salt of molybdenum or zinc. The composition is substantially non-toxic and environmentally acceptable and is supplied in a corrosion-inhibition amount to the otherwise metal-corrosive aqueous system.

A method of treating an aqueous system is described which comprises incorporating in the system a hydroxylamine derivative of the general formula: ##STR1## wherein each of R.sub.1, R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 which may be the same or different represents hydrogen, alkyl of 1 to 8 carbon atoms or aryl or a water soluble salt thereof or a precursor thereof, and a tannin in a weight ratio of at least 2:1. A method for inhibiting corrosion of metals in contact with an aqueous solution comprising adding to the system a corrosion inhibiting amount of one or more polytartaric acid compounds having the generalized formula: ##STR1## wherein each R is independently selected from the group consisting of H and C.sub.1 to C.sub.4 alkyl, n is less than 4 and the average molecular weight of the mixture corresponds to an average n in the range 1.2 to 3.
