A battery-management method is performed by a battery-operated device. The method includes allocating a first portion of a battery capacity to a first function and a second portion of the battery capacity to a second function. The method further includes simultaneously displaying a first indicator relating to the first portion of the battery capacity and a second indicator relating to the second portion of the battery capacity.

The disclosure describes a device and method for adjusting a backlight for a display for an electronic device. The method comprises: identifying a highest brightness value for a pixel in an image to be generated on the display; determining a brightness headroom value for the image based on a difference between the highest brightness value and a maximum brightness level for the display; and if the brightness headroom value is determined to be larger than a predetermined threshold, then when an adjusted image based on the image is generated on the display having a brightness based on the brightness headroom, generating an adjusted backlight level for the backlight, the adjusted backlight level being based on a ratio of the highest brightness value to the maximum brightness level.

System and method for adjusting a backlight level for a display on an electronic device

The disclosure describes a system and method for adjusting a backlight for a display for an electronic device. In the method, the following steps are provided: identifying a highest brightness value of an image for generation on the display; determining whether there is sufficient brightness headroom for the image based on the highest brightness value. If the brightness headroom is sufficient, then the method adjusts the image to create an adjusted image where elements of the adjusted image are boosted in brightness from the image based on the brightness headroom; and generates the adjusted image on the display. Finally, the method adjusts a backlight level to a lower adjusted backlight level for the adjusted image based on the brightness headroom.

A battery management system for managing a plurality of subsystem circuits and functions of a mobile communication device powered by a battery is disclosed. The battery management system includes a battery monitoring circuit, a user interface, and a battery management module. The battery monitoring circuit is operable to monitor a present battery capacity and generate a battery capacity signal based on the present battery capacity. The user interface is operable to receive a user-input allocation of battery capacity among the subsystem circuits and functions. The battery management module is operable to receive the user-input allocation and the battery capacity signal, and to selectively disable each subsystem circuit or function when each subsystem circuit or function has depleted its allocation of battery capacity.
