A method in one embodiment includes receiving, by a mobile client device, an incoming call sent by a caller, a caller ID being associated with the incoming call. A node connected to a packet-based network is accessed to obtain information about the caller. Information about the caller is then received from the node by the mobile client device. This information is applied to a set of client rules that selects a specific ring tone from a plurality of ring tones stored on the mobile client device. Finally, the specific ring tone is generated on the mobile client device to announce the incoming call.

Customized ring tones for mobile phones based on context information

In one embodiment, a method includes determining a location of a device relative to a reference, and identifying a first password from a plurality of passwords for use to unlock the device based on the location of the device relative to the reference. The plurality of passwords includes at least one complex password and at least one simple password. The method also includes prompting for input arranged to unlock the device, obtaining the input, and determining when the input matches the first password. When it is determined that the input matches the first password, the device is unlocked.

A method for retrieving data in a data source is provided. The method includes receiving a search term; identifying an active tag associated with the search term; correlating the active tag to dynamic data that is operative to adapt to a mining context in which data is stored; and retrieving the data using the dynamic data.

An apparatus is provided in one example embodiment and includes a content player that receives a request for content from an endpoint and evaluates whether a given portion of the content has already been multicasted. If the portion has been multicasted, then the endpoint is connected to a multicast version of the portion of the content, and if the portion has not been previously multicasted then the portion of content is added to a multicast transmission schedule. In more specific embodiments, the content player requests a piece of content from a content source and segments the piece of content into clips to be delivered to one or more endpoints. In still other embodiments, if the portion has not been previously multicasted then the portion of content is sent over a unicast channel.

System and method for multicasting in a network environment

A method for distributing voice-recognition grammars includes receiving match data from a first remote element. The match data includes information associated with an attempt by the remote element to match received audio information to first stored audio data. The method also includes generating a grammar entry based on the match data. The grammar entry includes second stored audio data and a word identifier associated with the second stored audio data. Additionally, the method includes transmitting the grammar entry to a second remote element.

System and method for maintaining a speech-recognition grammar

A system for communicating messages comprises a session server and a messaging server. The session server receives a call from a first client. The call is intended for a second client. The messaging server is coupled to the session server and receives the call from the session server. The messaging server further communicates a first-text message to an instant messaging client associated with the second client in response to receiving the call. The messaging server further receives a second-text message communicated by the instant messaging client. The second-text message is responsive to the first-text message. The messaging server further converts the second-text message into a voice message and communicates the voice message to the first client.
