A method for optimising a coded modulation scheme with a given spectral efficiency for communication over a fading channel represented/identified by B fading gains, where B is an integer number expressing the ratio between a code word duration and the duration over which the fading remains constant. The fading gains belong to a B-dimensional space of fading gains.

Method and device for coded modulation

A system for determining the burst start timing of a signal includes logic configured to receive the signal, generate correlation moduli and generate a first timing output based on the correlation moduli. The logic may also be configured to receive operating mode information and timing information and generate search controls. The logic may further be configured to identify a maximum of the correlation moduli using the search controls and determine a second timing output associated with the maximum correlation modulus. The second timing output represents a more accurate approximation of a burst start time than the first timing output.

Coarse timing synchronization

The present invention relates to a method for transmitting data between a transmitter provided with at least two transmitting antennas (ta, ta. . . taNt) and a receiver. The method according to the invention further includes a symbol spreading step in the course of which components Zij (for i=I to S and j=I to Nt) of a predetermined number of successive symbols ZI . . . ZS are to be spread over time before being transmitted over said transmitting antennas (ta, ta. . . taNt). The data transmitted at any given moment will thus not be representative of a single symbol Zi (for i=1 to S), as is the case in known MIMO systems, but will represent a mixture between Nt components of S successive symbols, which introduces data diversity with respect to time as perceived at the receiver end.

A method for transmitting data using Nt transmitting antennas over communication channels featuring Ni inputs. The method includes a bit interleaving step including demultiplexing a frame of encoded data bits into a number of bit sequences equal to the predefined number Ni of channel inputs, permutating the bits of each bit sequence produced by the demultiplexing step, forming groups of Nt interleaved bit sequences successively produced by the sequence permutating step, all sequences of a same group being intended to be transmitted through Nt channels allocated to a same bit rank for all transmitting antennas.

Method for transmitting uniformly distributed data in a MIMO telecommunication system

The present invention relates to a method for transmitting data including a bit interleaving step for permutating encoded data bits Tb before their transmission in the form of modulation symbols over Nt transmitting antennas. According to the invention, the bit interleaving step involves bit demultiplexing DMXS for extracting bit sequences Bsj (for j=0 to Nt) from the encoded data bits Tb, sequence interleaving SRIS for permutating the bits of each sequence Bsj (for j=0 to Nt), sequence storing and segmenting SQSS for dividing each interleaved sequence Isqj (for j=0 to Nt) into successive segments Psgj, and segment shifting SGS for applying circular shifts to simultaneous different segments Psgj (for j=1 to Nt). The invention enables to ensure that consecutive encoded bits see a maximum number of different communication channel states, and thus favours data diversity.

Method for transmitting optimally interleaved data in a MIMO telecommunication system

Burst detection with high accuracy is achieved with a single autocorrelation circuit. Autocorrelation is performed using a preamble-embedded correlation sequence chosen such that a steeply sloped peak characterizes the autocorrelation response. The autocorrelation circuit is preferably used multiple times per clock period to deliver correlation moduli at sub-clock multiples. A contrast function makes a weighted comparison of each correlation modulus output by the autocorrelation circuit relative to adjacent correlation moduli. The contrast output defines a burst start-time uncertainty-window in a manner that is independent of signal level variability attributable to different operating conditions. A search is performed within the uncertainty window to identify the correlation maximum. Depending on the system mode (e.g., traffic mode vs. ranging mode), a priori knowledge may be preferred to the contrast output for defining the timing uncertainty window of the search. The time associated with the correlation maximum is the approximate time of the start of the burst. Burst-start indications so identified are accurate within the sub-clock multiple associated with the autocorrelation results. Parabolic interpolation is subsequently preferably used to deliver an overall burst-start indication with additional accuracy.
