A hollow axle motor assembly () includes an armature () and a hollow axle () attached to the armature (). The hollow axle () has an outer diameter () and an inner diameter (). The inner diameter () of the hollow axle () receives a shaft or tube, such as a drive shaft (). A gear () is attached to the outer diameter () of the hollow axle (). Drive mechanism

A variable lumbar support has a support assembly mountable on a seat frame, a pressure element engaged with the support assembly to move in relation to it in a first direction and a second direction. The directions are substantially parallel and opposite and usually vertical. A first traction element engaged with the support assembly and the pressure element moves the pressure element in the first direction and a second traction element engaged with the support assembly and with the pressure element moves the pressure element in the second direction. At least one actuator engaged with the traction elements causes the movement.

Apparatus and method for bi-directional cable adjustment of an ergonomic support

A powered lumbar support device includes a panel having a first end and a second end. The panel is biased in a forward direction for providing an arch in a seat back. A lumbar frame extends downwardly from a support element for slideably supoprting the panel. A first cable is affixed to one of the ends of the panel and to an arching rack of a first gear box. Linear movement of the arching rack transfers motion to one of the ends to change the distance between the ends by moving the first cable. The powered lumbar support device includes a second gear box having a moving rack and a moving pinion for vertically shifting the lumbar support device. The second gear box may also be used to actuate additional support features, such as a bolster.

Powered actuator for lumbar unit

A powered lumbar support device includes a resilient panel having a first flange and a second flange. The panel is biased in a forward direction for providing an arch in a seat back. A lumbar frame extends downwardly from a support element for slideably supporting the resilient panel. An extending member is affixed to the first flange and projects upwardly from the control module, which is retained in position by a compliant spring. The control module includes a drive mechanism for changing the arch in the basket by changing the distance between the first flange and the second flange by extending and retracting the extending member.

A four-way power lumbar support system which provides for both an in-out directional adjustment and an up-down directional adjustment including a pair of directional one-way locking clutches that slip in one direction and lock in another direction, a single motor, and a single gearbox assembly. The motor output drives the two directional one-way locking clutches setup to slip and lock in opposite directions of rotation causing one to engage for clockwise rotation of the motor and the other to engage for counterclockwise rotation of the motor.

Four-way power lumbar system

The apparatus stimulates the muscles of a seat occupant. The apparatus includes a flexible supporting element adapted to be coupled to a seat for movement relative thereto and driving means for automatically and repeatedly moving the flexible supporting element through an adjustment cycle. The adjustment cycle includes a plurality of first incremental movements in a first direction followed by a plurality of second incremental movements in a second direction. Each of the first and second incremental movements are separated by a first time interval. The method relieves muscle fatigue in a seat occupant by incrementally adjusting the curvature of the supporting element and generally includes the steps of placing a supporting element in a first position operatively engaging a muscle of the seat occupant wherein the first position defines a first degree of curvature of the supporting element. The method further includes automatically adjusting the curvature of the supporting element according to an adjustment cycle that includes maintaining the first degree of curvature for a first time period, increasing the degree of curvature a first amount after the first time period to define a second degree of curvature, maintaining the second degree of curvature for a second time period, and decreasing the degree of curvature of the supporting element a second amount after the second time period to define a third degree of curvature wherein the first time period is equal to the second time period.

Apparatus and method for adjusting the position of a supporting element

The apparatus stimulates the muscles of the a seat occupant.
