This invention is concerned with a new class of flame retardant polycarbonate compositions. More particularly, the invention is concerned with admixtures of an aromatic polycarbonate and a flame retardant additive combination consisting of a halogenated organic compound and an alkali or alkaline earth metal salt of an inorganic sulfur compound. The flame retardant polycarbonates can be molded or formed into flame retardant articles such as films, sheets, fibers, laminates or reinforced plastics by conventional techniques.

Novel flame retardant polycarbonate compositions

A flame retardant polycarbonate composition comprising in admixture an aromatic carbonate polymer and a minor amount of a mixture of a metal salt of an organic sulfonate or organic carboxylate, and an organic halogenated compound. This invention relates generally to flame retardant polycarbonate compositions and more particularly to flame retardant compositions containing an aromatic carbonate polymer and a minor amount of a mixture of a metal salt of an organic sulfonate or organic carboxylate, and an organic halogenated compound.

Flame retardant polycarbonate composition

A flame retardant thermoplastic composition comprising an organic sulfonate flame retardant additive in admixture with a composition selected from the group comprising a polyarylsulfone, a polyarylethersulfone, a polyphenylsulfide, blends of a polyarylethersulfone and a polyarylsulfone, blends of a polyarylethersulfone and a polyphenylsulfide, blends of a polyarylsulfone and a polyphenylsulfide, blends of a polyarylenecarbonate and acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene copolymer (ABS), blends of a polyarylenecarbonate, acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene copolymer (ABS) and a polyarylsulfone, blends of a polyarylenecarbonate, acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene copolymer (ABS) and a polyarylethersulfone, blends of a polyarylenecarbonate, acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene copolymer (ABS) and a polyphenylsulfide, and blends of a polyarylenecarbonate, acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene copolymer (ABS), together with two or more compounds selected from the group comprising polyarylsulfones, polyarylethersulfones and polyphenylsulfides. The composition may additionally contain an organic halogen-containing flame retardant additive.

Flame retardant thermoplastic compositions

A thermal oxidative stabilized polycarbonate composition comprises in admixture (a) a high molecular weight aromatic carbonate polymer and (b) a minor amount of an end-blocked polyorganohydrogen siloxane and, optionally, an organic phosphite or phosphonite and/or epoxy compound.

Stabilized polycarbonate compositions

A flame retardant polycarbonate composition comprising in admixture an aromatic carbonate polymer and a flame retardant additive chosen from the group comprising melamine-formaldehyde, phenol-formaldehyde, urea formaldehyde, lignin, lignosulfonates and mixtures thereof. The composition may additionally contain an organic halogen-containing flame retardant additive.

A thermal oxidative stabilized polycarbonate composition comprises in admixture (a) a high molecular weight aromatic carbonate polymer and (b) a minor amount of an oligomeric or polymeric hydrocarbonoxy siloxane and, optionally, an organophosphite or organophosphonite and/or an epoxy compound.
