Audio systems and methods are provided that enhance a portion of audio content relative to other portions of the audio content. The systems and methods select the portion to be enhanced and calculate an intelligibility metric of the selected portion, such as a dialogue portion. The systems and methods determine a gain based at least in part upon the intelligibility metric and apply the gain to the selected portion to provide an enhanced portion. The systems and methods provide an audio signal, based at least in part upon the enhanced portion, to an output for conversion to an acoustic signal, such as by an acoustic transducer.

Playback enhancement in audio systems

An audio system with first and second discrete audio drivers that are in a listening space, wherein each driver is configured to radiate sound into the listening space, and wherein the radiated sound from each driver at a listening location in the listening space has a frequency, phase, and magnitude. The audio system is configured to modify a phase of the sound radiated by at least one of the first or second drivers such that a phase response difference between the first and second drivers at the listening location is closer to zero degrees than it was before the modification.

Audio system equalization

Audio systems and methods are provided that receive a playback signal and produce an acoustic signal based upon the playback signal, and include microphone signal(s) for capturing and processing user voice signals. An echo reference signal is based upon the playback signal, and an echo canceler reduces echo components from the microphone signal(s). Functionality of the echo canceler is modified, such as by freezing an adaptive filter, in response to a non-linear condition in the audio playback, or a likelihood of such a non-linear condition.

Audio speaker systems and methods are provided to detect movement of the speaker system or other device. An audio program content signal is converted into an acoustic signal, and the acoustic signal causes an echo signal. The echo signal is received and a relationship of the echo signal to the audio program content signal is quantified. A quantified value is compared to a stored quantified value and, based upon the comparison, a change in physical position is selectively indicated.

Acoustical method for detecting speaker movement

A method and apparatus for determining if there is a stream of video signals corresponding with a stream of audio signals. If the sample rate of a digital bitstream including is determined. if the sample rate is 48 m kHz (where m is an integer), it is determined that there are video signals corresponding to the audio signals. If the sample rate is 44.1 m kHz (where m is an integer), it is determined that there are no video signals corresponding to the audio signals.

Audio signal processing

Processing a signal includes: receiving data that includes an input signal; filtering the input signal to generate a filtered signal, such that if the input signal includes at least one instance of a nonlinear distortion of a desired signal then the filtered signal includes a signature signal corresponding to the nonlinear distortion, the nonlinear distortion characterized by a time duration that is within a predetermined range; and detecting whether or not the filtered signal includes the signature signal.

Filtering for detection of limited-duration distortion

A system for limiting the excursion of an audio speaker. The system may include first lowpass filter circuitry configured to receive a system input signal and to generate a first signal. The system may further include clipping circuitry configured between the first lowpass filter circuitry and the first combiner circuitry. The system may include first highpass filter circuitry configured to receive the system input signal and to generate a second signal. The system may include second lowpass filter circuitry configured to receive a combined output signal from the first combiner circuitry. The system may include allpass filter circuitry configured to receive the system input signal and to generate a fourth signal. The system may include second highpass filter circuitry configured to receive the fourth signal from the allpass filter circuitry. The second combiner circuitry may be configured to generate an excursion limiting output signal.

System and method for excursion limiting

A communication system, source and destination ports of the communication system, and methodology is provided for transporting data in one of possibly three different ways. Data is transported across the network at a frame sample rate that can be the same as or different from the sample rate or master clock within the source port or the destination port. If the sample rate of the source port is known, the sample rate of the destination port can be created using a PLL within the destination port and simply employing a phase comparator in the source port. The phase comparator forwards the phase or frequency difference of the network transfer rate and the source sample rate to the destination port, which then generates a local clock equivalent to the source which then compiles audio data being played at the same rate in which it was sampled at the source. Where economically feasible, sample rate conversion can be used at the source. However, sample rate conversion at the destination is preferred if the source sample rate is forwarded across the network relative to the frame transfer rate of the synchronous network. The sample rate converter simply produces a play rate from the transmitted information at the destination. Again, however, sample rate conversion compares relative phase difference changes similar to the phase difference compared in the digital PLL mode. As a further alternative, sample rates within the source and destination ports can be derived from the network frame rate using fractional dividers in the source and destination ports.
