Blends of aromatic polyestercarbonate copolymers with aromatic polycarbonate resins provide improved low temperature toughness while maintaining tensile strength essentially equivalent to the polycarbonate component. Particularly preferred components are polycarbonates of bisphenol A and a polyestercarbonate derived from bisphenol A, phosgene and terephthaloyl and isophthaloyl chlorides.

Blends of a polycarbonate with a polyester-polycarbonate copolymer

Flame retardant polycarbonate compositions are prepared from dihydric aromatic compounds and alkali metal hydrogen sulfite. These compositions are more effective than similar compositions containing alkali metal sulfites.

Flame retardant polycarbonates

Novel copolycarbonates exhibiting generally improved impact resistance, clarity and flame resistance are prepared by blending a polycarbonate of a trityldiol such as phenolphthalein and a polycarbonate of another diol such as bisphenol-A under conditions of temperature and/or shear sufficient to cause reaction of the polycarbonates.
