A tackifier polymeric additive including an emulsion polymerization reaction product of: (a) at least one aromatic monomer; (b) at least one acrylate or methacrylate monomer; and (c) at least one chain transfer agent; and a tackified acrylic adhesive composition including (I) at least one acrylic adhesive polymer; and (II) the above tackifier polymeric additive.

Tackifier composition

A method is provided of preparing a compound of formula II: where: Rand Rare independently selected from —CHOR', —CHO, —COOR′ and —H, the compounds of formulas I and II being optionally in the form of a salt. The method comprises dehydrating the compound of formula I at: a pH in the range of from 0 to 6 or 8 to 11.5; and a temperature in the range of from 10 to 80° C. The method is particularly useful for synthesizing substituted furans from compounds derived from sugars.

Synthesis of substituted furans

The present invention provides a method of preparing a furan derivative comprising the steps of (a) converting a monosaccharide to provide a keto-intermediate product; and (b) dehydrating the keto-intermediate product to provide a furan derivative; wherein the keto-intermediate product is pre-disposed to forming keto-furanose tautomers in solution. The method may further comprise a step of oxidizing the furan derivative to provide a furandicarboxylic acid or a furandicarboxylic acid derivative.

Synthesis of furans from sugars via keto intermediates

Pressure sensitive adhesive compositions are disclosed comprising acrylic emulsions that are emulsion polymerization products of (a) a monomer mixture comprising, based on the total weight of monomers in the monomer mixture, from 50 to 99 weight percent 2-ethylhexyl acrylate and from 1 to 50 weight percent an unsaturated monomer, (b) a surfactant, and (c) an initiator. Methods for preparing pressure sensitive adhesive compositions are also disclosed. Food contact articles comprising the disclosed pressure sensitive adhesive compositions are also disclosed. In some embodiments, the disclosed food contact articles have an overall migration of less than 25 mg/dm, as measured in accordance with EN 1186, or less than 10 mg/dm, as measured in accordance with EN 1186.

Pressure sensitive adhesive compositions and methods of making same

Adhesive compositions are disclosed comprising acrylic copolymers formed from a monomer mixture comprising, based on the total weight of monomers in the monomer mixture, from 59 to 97.9 weight percent 2-ethylhexyl acrylate, from 0.1 to 10 weight percent styrene, from 0 to 25 weight percent methyl methacrylate, and from 2 to 30 weight percent ethyl acrylate, wherein the ratio of ethyl acrylate to styrene (by weight) is greater than 4.5 to 1. Methods for preparing adhesive compositions are disclosed comprising feeding an aqueous initial charge to a reactor, heating the aqueous initial charge to from about 30 to 110&#xb0; C., gradually feeding a monomer mixture into the reactor over a period of time (less than 3 hours), in the presence of a free-radical polymerization initiator, thereby forming the acrylic adhesive composition, wherein the amount of free monomer in the reactor does not exceed 17 percent by weight, based on the total weight of the reactor contents, during gradual feeding.

Acrylic adhesive compositions and methods of making same

A method is provided of preparing a compound of formula II: where: Rand Rare independently selected from &#x2014;CH2OR', &#x2014;CHO, &#x2014;COOR&#x2032; and &#x2014;H, provided that Rand Rare not both &#x2014;H; and R&#x2032; is selected from &#x2014;H and Chydrocarbyl groups, from a compound of formula I: the compounds of formulas I and II being optionally in the form of a salt. The method comprises dehydrating the compound of formula I at: a pH in the range of from 0 to 6 or 8 to 11.5; and a temperature in the range of from 10 to 80&#xb0; C. The present disclosure provides methods to produce ketones suitable for use as fuels and lubricants by catalytic conversion of an acetone-butanol-ethanol (ABE) fermentation product mixture that can be derived from biomass.

Method to convert fermentation mixture into fuels

The present disclosure generally relates to the catalytic conversion of alcohols into hydrocarbon ketones suitable for use as fuels. More specifically, the present disclosure relates to the catalytic conversion of a mixture of isopropanol-butanol-ethanol (IBE) or acetone-butanol-ethanol (ABE), into ketones suitable for use as fuels. The ABE or IBE mixtures may be obtained from the fermentation of biomass or sugars.
