An electronic mail system provides a user with notification of a received e-mail message without requiring the user to call into their e-mail service provider. A user registers with an e-mail service to be notified of a received e-mail message, and the user is then notified of the received e-mail message by the desired system, such as telephone, voice mail, or a pager.

System and method for providing notification of a received electronic mail message

A call servicing system allows service agents to service calls from customers. The system includes local customer switches, local agent switches, and a customer database connected to a network call center. The local customer switches direct calls to and from the customers and the local agent switches direct calls to and from the service agents. The customer database stores information regarding the customers sending the calls. The network call center receives a call from a first one of the customers, queries the customer database to retrieve customer information corresponding to the first customer, and concurrently routes the customer call and the corresponding customer information to one of the service agents.

Call center integration with operator services databases

As was seen in the long distance market when it became de-regulated, there were many instances of unauthorized transfers of a customer from one long distance provider to another. Customers having not requested a transfer would not be made aware of the completed transfer until at the earliest the first billing received from the new long distance provider. Once LNP network solutions are implemented and the various service providers can provide their customers with the various types of LNP, service providers and their subscribers will require automated methods of porting as disclosed which reduce the number of unauthorized porting requests including the unauthorized transfers of subscribers from one service provider to another.
