A method for preparing an electrical cable may include coupling an injection barrel to an electrical cable that includes one or more conductors surrounded by a porous insulating material. The method may also include injecting epoxy resin into a chamber of the injection barrel, and the chamber may be fluidly coupled to an end face of the porous insulating material. Additionally, the method may include pressurizing the chamber such that the epoxy resin is forced to penetrate into the end face of the porous insulating material and removing the injection barrel to expose an epoxy-injected portion of the porous insulating material.

Cable preparation and injection systems and methods

An optical connection system includes a first connector having at least one first optical element and a first actuation arm rotatable about a first pivot point. The optical connection system also includes a second connector having at least one second optical element configured to be coupled to the at least one first optical element via an optical connection procedure. The second connector also includes a second actuation arm rotatable about a second pivot point. The first connector is configured to engage the second connector during the optical connection procedure such that the first actuation arm is rotated about the first pivot point, the second actuation arm is rotated about the second pivot point, and an interface between the first actuation arm and the second actuation arm moves away from a longitudinal axis of the optical connection system.

Fibre optic wet mate connector system

A system includes a first electrical connector configured to removably couple with a second electrical connector. The first electrical connector includes a housing having an axial opening. The first connector also includes a movable support disposed inside the housing. The movable support includes a first connector portion having a first electrical path with a first radial contact electrically coupled to a first axial contact. The first electrical connector also includes a stationary support disposed inside the housing. The stationary support includes a first mating connector portion having a first mating electrical path with a first mating axial contact coupled to a first electrical cable. The first electrical connector also includes a shuttle pin configured to engage with the second electrical connector through the axial opening in the housing. The shuttle pin is configured to move along a first axial path of travel in a first connection stage. The movable support is configured to move along a second axial path of travel in a second connection stage. The first connection stage is configured to engage the first radial contact of the first electrical connector with a first mating radial contact of the second electrical connector at a first axial position in response to the first axial path of travel. The second connection stage is configured to engage the first axial contact with the first mating axial contact over a first axial distance in response to the second axial path of travel.

A releasable locking mechanismfor use in a downhole wellis provided. The releasable locking mechanismis suitable for use in a cable termination assembly. The cable termination assemblyis coupled to a downhole apparatusand is configured for coupling a cable linethereto. The releasable locking mechanismincludes an extension tubeadapted to be coupled to the cable line, and a base assemblyadapted to be coupled to the cable termination assembly. The extension tubeand the base assemblyare adapted to releasably engage each other in such a manner that when a tensile load in the cable lineexceeds a predefined threshold value, the extension tubeand the base assemblyare disengaged.

Releasable locking mechanism

A connection release system for the disconnection of various connections, such as electrical, hydraulic, optical, and/or multi-connector, to a service tool in a high pressure environment. An embodiment of the connection release system includes a first and second housing portion with a piston disposed partially within both the first and second housing portions, the piston having a plurality of threads at an exterior portion of a second end. The system further includes a plurality of fluid chambers disposed in the first housing portion, the fluid chambers are filled with fluid to pressure-balance the piston such that the addition of a pressurized fluid to the pressure-balanced piston causes the piston to move, the exterior threaded portion of the piston to disengage an interior threaded portion within the housing second portion, and allow the first housing portion to separate from the second housing portion.

A feedthrough for a connector system includes an insulator comprising a passage therethrough, a conductor pin located in the passage, and a pressure sleeve located between the insulator and the conductor pin. The pressure sleeve is coupled to the insulator and to the conductor pin, and the conductor pin is movable relative to the insulator under thermal or pressure expansion or contraction.

A technique facilitates the reliable connection of cables in subsea environments. A cablehead system is designed to reliably connect cables to subsea components while providing long term protection of the connection in potentially harsh, subsea environments. The cablehead system comprises a cable clamp housing which may be coupled to a bulkhead assembly by a cavity housing which provides space for routing of internal communication lines. One or more additional protective components are incorporated into the cablehead system to ensure a reliable connection and to further protect the internal communication lines from exposure to the surrounding environment.

A wellhead system has a wellhead of a subterranean hydrocarbon well, a coiled tubing hanger in the wellhead, a coiled tubing hanger extension connected to a top portion of the coiled tubing hanger, a first seal inside the coiled tubing hanger extension, the first seal and the coiled tubing hanger extension defining a sealed space in the coiled tubing hanger extension. Coiled tubing extends into the sealed space in the coiled tubing hanger extension and being suspended by the coiled tubing hanger and the coiled tubing hanger extension, the coiled tubing extending into the wellhead. A downhole electrical cable extends through the coiled tubing and into the sealed space in the coiled tubing hanger extension. An electrical connector extends through the seal and is connected electrically to the cable. The electrical connector has an electrical circuit having an electrically open and an electrically closed position.

Method and apparatus for connecting, installing, and retrieving a coiled tubing-conveyed electrical submersible pump

An electrical connector is provided for use in establishing watertight connections, such as for subsea applications. The connector comprises a receptacle component () that includes a fluted, insulated male contact pin () with an isolation tube () substantially surrounding the insulated male contact pin over at least part of its length and containing oil therein, and a plug component () that includes a sliding contact pin assembly () and a release mechanism (). The release mechanism () enables linear tolerance sliding action between the receptacle component and the plug component after establishing electrical communication between the mating components. The sliding contact pin assembly further includes a shuttle pin () that is urged rearwardly during mating to operate the release mechanism, thereby allowing the male contact pin and front contact band () to move relative to the central spring support rod () of the plug component.
