A method for powering a system in a vehicle, the method including the steps of mechanically coupling, driving and controlling. The mechanically coupling step includes coupling a power unit with at least one primary load, the at least one primary load including a propulsion load. The driving step includes driving a cleaning fan and a cleaning shoe with at least one power source, the at least one power source being mechanically independent from the power unit. The controlling step includes controlling a speed of the at least one power source independent of a speed of the power unit.

A method and system for boosting a torque output of a drive train comprises an engine speed detector for detecting an engine speed of an engine having a baseline torque versus engine speed curve. A data processor determines if the detected engine speed is within a first range of engine speeds, if the detected engine speed is within the first range, the electric motor is activated to rotate substantially synchronously with the engine speed within the first range in an electric propulsion mode in accordance with a supplemental torque versus engine speed curve. The supplemental torque versus engine speed curve intercepts the baseline torque versus engine speed curve at a lower engine speed point and a higher engine speed point.

A method and system for boosting a torque output of a drive train comprises a torque sensor for detecting an engine torque of an engine having a baseline torque versus engine speed curve. A data processor determines if the detected engine torque is within a first torque range, if the detected engine torque is within the first range, the electric motor is activated to rotate substantially synchronously with a corresponding engine speed associated with the detected engine torque in accordance with a supplemental torque versus engine speed curve. The supplemental torque versus engine speed curve intercepts the baseline torque versus engine speed curve at a first lower speed point and a first higher speed point.

A drive assembly for a combine head includes a hub and a bearing received over a portion of the hub. The bearing defines a rotational axis of the hub. A plane passes radially through the bearing relative to the axis. A sprocket is coupled to the hub and is coaxial with the bearing. The sprocket has a plurality of teeth located around a perimeter of the sprocket, the plurality of teeth being located so that the plane passes radially through the plurality of teeth.

Drive assembly and drive system for a combine head

A torque sensing assembly includes an axially fixed sheave having an axis of rotation, and an axially movable sheave movable along the axis in relation to the axially fixed sheave. A compression spring has a first end and a second end, with the first end being positioned to engage the axially movable sheave. A dual stage spring compression mechanism has a spring retainer that engages the second end of the compression spring. The dual stage spring compression mechanism is connected to the axially fixed sheave. The dual stage spring compression mechanism has a first stage compression device that compresses the compression spring by a first preload amount and a second stage compression device that compresses the compression spring by a second preload amount.

A bearing arrangement for a harvesting machine, including a bearing configured to couple a rotatable shaft with a chassis of the harvesting machine, a first element coupled with the shaft so as to be rotatable therewith, and a second element coupled with the chassis of the harvesting machine. Additionally, at least a portion of the second element is substantially concentrically enclosed by the first element and the first and second elements cooperate to define a contactless seal configured to substantially prevent contamination of the bearing. The shaft is coupled with a product treating element, such as a crop feeding and/or processing element that is driven or idle rotating.

Bearing arrangement for a harvesting machine

A mechanism for powering a combine header unit at infinitely variable speeds. A primary motor is coupled to a primary input shaft via a clutch, a variable-speed secondary motor is directly coupled to a secondary input shaft, and the header unit coupled to a header output shaft. A planetary gear-train couples the primary input shaft, the secondary input shaft, and the header output shaft to each other. A primary brake is coupled to the primary input shaft, and a secondary brake coupled to the secondary input shaft. A control circuit is employed to command the operation of the clutch, the secondary motor, the primary brake, and the secondary brake in response to operator commands.

Infinitely variable transmission for a combine header unit

A mechanism is provided for engaging and disengaging the reverse operation of a feederhouse of a harvesting apparatus. The mechanism solves the problem of accurate engagement between the shift collar or driving element and the reverse gear, teeth or splines and the forward gear, teeth or splines of the feederhouse transmission. The mechanism comprises an actuator, electrically controlled, which loads or compresses a spring, wherein the spring exerts a shifting force on a shift shaft or shift fork of the gearbox which automatically moves the shift collar or driving element of the transmission into either a forward or reverse drive position when the gear, teeth of splines of the shift collar is aligned or meshed with the gear, teeth or splines of either the reverse or forward drive of the feederhouse transmission.

Reverser control for a combine

An agricultural combine having a supporting structure that is driven by ground engaging wheels at a harvesting speed by a propulsion assembly. The combine is also provided with a threshing assembly that is driven by a variable torque sensing drive. The variable torque sensing drive is manipulated by pressurized hydraulic fluid. A hydraulic sensor in hydraulic communication with the variable torque sensing drive provides an actual hydraulic pressure signal that is directed to an electronic controller. An operator control in the operator's cab of the combine provides a loss rate signal that is also directed to the electronic controller. The electronic controller converts the loss rate signal into a desired hydraulic pressure signal. The electronic controller regulates the forward speed (harvesting speed) of the combine so that the desired hydraulic pressure signal is equal to the actual pressure signal. The harvesting speed regulation can be modified or overridden by moisture signals from a moisture sensor located in the feederhouse for sensing the moisture content of harvested crop.

Throughput control for combines having a variable torque sensing drive

A drive system for the internal combustion engine of a large work vehicle, such as a self-propelled agricultural combine. The drive system comprising three concentric drive shafts that are housed in a housing for driving three separate usage assemblies. The outer and middle drive shafts are provided with bevel gear assemblies having output axes perpendicular to the drive shafts axis. The bevel gear assembly of the outer drive shaft is coupled to a series of four sequentially mounted hydraulic pumps, whereas the bevel gear assembly of the middle drive shaft is coupled to a forwardly extending drive shaft. An internal clutch is provided for operatively engaging and disengaging the middle drive shaft from the drive train.

Compact combine drive system

In the variable speed V-belt drive of a combine harvester threshing cylinder, the driven sheave is torque-responsive, responding automatically to adjust drive belt tension according to the torque being transmitted. A linear hydraulic actuator, integral with the drive sheave, is used to adjust an axially movable sheave half with respect to a fixed sheave half so as to vary sheave effective diameter and hence driven speed. At any given speed setting, oil is trapped in the hydraulic actuator and oil pressure varies according to separating force between the halves of the drive sheave which in turn depends upon belt tension. A pressure switch, connected so as to sense the oil pressure, has a set point such that at a predetermined maximum (overload) belt tension, the switch is actuated so as to declutch or disconnect the drive sheave from its power source, thus protecting the threshing cylinder and drive components from damage. The signal from the pressure switch may be used also, or alternatively to actuate an operator warning signal.
