A fire protection system and method for an enclosure includes an inert agent supply source configured to discharge an inert agent following a discharge of a primary agent in the enclosure, a gas detector configured to determine a gas concentration level in the enclosure, and a controller connected with the inert agent supply source and the gas detector and configured to regulate the discharge of the inert agent into the enclosure based at least partially upon the gas concentration level.

A nozzle for a fire suppression system includes a smooth dome having an exterior surface approximating a partial sphere, a cavity within the dome, and a plurality of orifices through the dome providing fluid communication between the cavity and the exterior of the dome. A fire suppression system is also disclosed.

A fire suppression system is provided including at least one nozzle configured to expel a fire suppression agent into a space. A storage container includes a fire suppression agent and a first pressurized gas at least partially dissolved within the fire suppression agent. At least one canister contains a second pressurized gas. A piping system is configured to fluidly couple the at least one canister to the storage container and to fluidly couple the storage container to the at least one nozzle. When the fire suppression system is inactive, the fire suppression agent within the storage container is pressurized to a storage pressure. The storage pressure is greater than a vapor pressure of the fire suppression agent such that first pressurized gas dissolves into the fire suppression agent. When the fire suppression system is active, propellant pressure in the piping system exceeds the storage pressure of the fire suppression agent.

Method of delivering a fire extinguishing agent

A system for delivery of a fire extinguishing agent includes an agent tank at least partially filled with a volume of liquid fire extinguishing agent and a supply of pressurizing gas operatively connected to inject pressurizing gas into the volume of liquid agent. A discharge valve is configured to open when the agent tank reaches a desired pressure due to the injection of pressurizing gas therein thereby delivering a flow including fire extinguishing agent with associated dissolved pressurizing gas from the agent tank. The flow of fire extinguishing agent and associated dissolved pressurizing gas is discharged from the agent tank.

System and method of conditioning and delivery of liquid fire extinguishing agent

An atomizing nozzle and fixed clean agent fire suppression system. The system stores gas fire suppressant in a liquefied state separate from propellant gas. Upon demand, the propellant charges the gas fire suppressant to provide a piston flow system that pushes the gas fire suppressant in the liquid state through a pipe network to the protected area of a building. The system includes a plurality of atomizing nozzles for atomizing the gas fire suppressant where it more easily vaporizes. Each atomizing nozzle comprises a nozzle body and a deflector body secured together in fixed relation. A conical flow passage is formed between the nozzle body and deflector body. The conical flow passage extends radially outward to a circumferential outlet slot that spreads the liquid clean agent out into a thin liquid conical fan that breaks up into droplets and atomizes quickly.

A method and apparatus for testing a fire suppressing system having outlet nozzles from which a high pressure suppressant agent is discharged in which a vessel is attached to each nozzle to capture the agent discharged during a test. The collection vessel is preferably an elongated plastic bag that is rolled to remove air from the bag before agent is discharged into it. The amount of agent captured in a vessel is calculated, such as by weighing. The captured discharged agent is compressed for return to a storage container in which it can be re-pressurized for further use.

Method and pparatus for testing fire suppression systems

A multi-port system sampling maintains a balanced fluid flow, and more particularly is a gas sampling system used for the rapid detection of fire in which the flow rate through each sampling system aperture is substantially equal. The system may include a single main conduit having a number of sampling apertures spaced apart for sampling different locations. The sizing of the apertures is such that an equal flow rate is present at each aperture, allowing a balanced sampling of each sampling location. The system may also include multiple secondary conduits all feeding one main conduit. Each secondary conduit has a number of different sampling apertures, and may be of a different length. The diameters of the secondary conduits are relative to the length of the conduits and the size of the respective conduit apertures so as to create a balanced fluid flow rate through each of the apertures.

Balanced fluid flow delivery system

The present invention is a method of producing single, unaggregated magnetic iron oxide particles. An iron or iron and divalent metal halide feed solution is kinetically atomized into a high velocity flame. The feed solution is vaporized and held in a reactor at a temperature and partial pressure of an oxidizing phase sufficient to form either ferrous oxide or magnetite particles. The iron or iron and divalent metal halide vapor reacts with the oxidizing phase vapor and converts to either ferrous oxide vapor or magnetite vapor. Since the vapor phase is beyond equilibrium concentration ferrous oxide or magnetite particles precipitate from the vapor phase. Quenching of the magnetite particles at an enhanced rate to less than 500.degree. C. in a reducing atmosphere renders magnetite and in a oxidizing atmosphere renders maghemite. Quenching of the ferrous oxide particles in a non-oxidizing atmosphere produces magnetite particles.

High temperature process for making fine magnetic particles

A method for producing fine magnetic particles having the barium or strotium ferrite M-phase crystal structure. An iron and alkaline earth metal halide feed solution is vaporized to form a precursor and oxidizing vapor phase. The precursor and hydrolyzing or oxidizing vapor phases are held in a reactor at a temperature sufficient to effect vaporization of the feed solution yet which is below the melting point of the desired M-phase crystal structure. Small iron oxide particles precipitate from the vapor phase and alkaline earth oxides thereafter. The alkaline earth oxide particles diffuse into the iron oxide particles to form the desired M-phase structure. When the desired width and thickness of the M-phase crystal platelets is achieved, the M-phase particles are cooled by quenching. Composition of the feed solution may be modified by substituting divalent metal halides for the alkaline earth metal halide or by substituting trivalent halides or a combination of a divalent metal halide and either a penta or quatravalent metal halide for the ferric halide.
