An injector seal assembly including a nozzle combustion shield is disclosed, the thermally conductive component of the injector seal assembly defining at least one groove to allow fluid communication between the main combustion chamber and a gap defined by a fuel injector and the injector seal assembly to facilitate the prevention of corrosion of the components.

A connector block that directs fuel from an outer fuel line to an inner fuel line. The connector block includes an inlet that couples to the outer fuel line, an outlet that coupled to the inner fuel line, and a fuel accumulator fluidly coupled to the inlet and the outlet. The fuel accumulator directs the fuel from the inlet to the outlet.

Modular and scalable rail fuel system architecture

A fuel filtration system and methods controlling, and operating a fuel filtration system. A first fuel filter head is fluidly coupled to one or more first fuel filters, a second fuel filter head is fluidly coupled to one or more second fuel filters and a selector valve is coupled to the first fuel filter head and the second fuel filter head. The selector valve includes a primary valve inlet port, a primary valve outlet port, and a movable valve body movable from a first position to a second position. The first position fluidly couples the first fuel filter head to the primary valve outlet port and fluidly decouples the second fuel filter head from the primary valve outlet port. The second position fluidly couples the second fuel filter head to the primary valve outlet port and fluidly decouples the first fuel filter head from the primary valve outlet port.

Fuel filtration system

A modular system for injecting fuel into an engine comprises a fuel rail coupled to the engine. A plurality of connection members are coupled to the fuel rail, and each of the plurality of connection members is configured to receive fuel from the fuel rail. The fuel is directed to a plurality of fuel injectors, and the plurality of fuel injectors are configured to direct fuel to a plurality of cylinders. A plurality of outer fuel lines are coupled to the plurality of connection members, and the plurality of outer fuel lines are arranged in a single configuration. The single configuration allows the fuel rail to be coupled to a plurality of engine configurations while maintaining the plurality of outer fuel lines arranged in the single configuration.

Systems and related methods for regulating fuel rail pressure for internal combustion engines utilizing an electronic fuel transfer pump (eFTP) on the low side to provide robust control of fuel pressure on the high side. The eFTP is in fluid communication with a low-pressure fuel circuit for providing a low-pressure fuel flow at a low pressure to a high-pressure pump. Upon failure of a fuel control valve, a pressure-responsive valve, and/or a pressure sensor impacting the high-side fuel pressure, the eFTP modulates the low-side fuel flow and/or low-side fuel pressure to mitigate damage to the engine. A controller in operative communication with the eFTP and/or one or more sensors is configured to provide a pump command to the eFTP in response to a failure condition impacting the high-side fuel pressure.

Regulation of fuel rail pressure using electronic fuel transfer pump in low pressure fuel circuits

The present disclosure provides a fuel injector seal assembly comprising a seal member comprising a first section, a second section and an annular recess disposed in the first section, the first section having a first diameter and the second section having a second diameter wherein the first diameter is greater than the second diameter; and a sleeve member comprising a first end received by the first section of the seal member, the sleeve member further including a lengthwise portion configured to press fit around a nozzle housing of a fuel injector to cause heat transfer from the nozzle housing toward a body portion of the fuel injector.

Heat transferring fuel injector combustion seal with load bearing capability

A cylinder liner and piston configuration for an internal combustion engine includes features for improving the cooling of the piston. Specific ratios and dimensions are included to optimize the features of the cylinder liner and piston. Also included are unique piston features that assist in achieving some of the specified dimensions and ratios.

Engine arrangement for enhanced cooling

A cylinder liner sealing arrangement for an internal combustion engine including a cylinder block having cylinder bores, a cylinder head, a cylinder liner within each cylinder bore and a circumferential cut-out formed in the upper and outer surfaces of the cylinder liner. A circular sealing ring is positioned in the circumferential cut-out with the sealing ring contacting at least the cylinder block and the cylinder liner to form a coolant seal therebetween. The sealing ring includes a seal enhancing configuration formed on at least an outer circumferential surface of the sealing ring with the seal enhancing configuration including at least one of an arcuate portion of a 'D' ring seal or a plurality of circumferentially extending ribs. Replacing the cylinder liner seal includes removing the cylinder head while maintaining the position of the cylinder liner within the respective cylinder bore, removing an upper liner seal from within the circumferential cut-out while maintaining the position of the cylinder liner within the cylinder bore, positioning a replacement sealing ring in the circumferential cut-out while maintaining the position of the cylinder liner within the cylinder bore and replacing the cylinder head on the cylinder block of the engine.

Cylinder liner seal arrangement and method of providing the same

This disclosure provides a fuel injector seal assembly comprising a seal component fabricated or formed of a first material and a thermally conductive or heat transfer component fabricated or formed of a second material that is different from the first material. The first material has a greater strength than the second material, and the second material has a greater thermal conductivity than the first material. Thus, the injector seal assembly is able to provide a primary benefit of a combustion seal while also providing an enhanced benefit of transferring heat from one portion of the fuel injector to another portion of the fuel injector.

An improved cooling fluid passage configuration provides for uniformity of cooling about the entire periphery of a cylinder liner of an internal combustion engine in addition to improved cooling by increasing the flow in an upper water jacket of a split water jacket design. The cooling fluid passage configuration also provides a reduced pressure drop between a cylinder liner cooling fluid inlet and a cylinder head cooling fluid outlet when compared to conventional designs with a single head feed line, permitting use of a smaller cooling fluid pump and leading to increased efficiency of the engine.

Internal combustion engine having improved cooling arrangement

This disclosure provides a fuel system for supplying fuel to an internal combustion engine, an internal combustion engine that includes such a fuel system, a connector for connecting a single-walled high pressure common rail to a double-walled fuel line segment, and a fluid containment system. Each embodiment includes drain plumbing having a leakage drain connector that can be used to provide an interface between a single-walled high pressure common rail and a double-walled high pressure fuel line segment, and also provide part of a low pressure passage fluidly connected with a low pressure passage of the double-walled high pressure fuel line segment. The drain plumbing also can provide an interface with a low pressure fuel drain line fluidly coupled to a leakage detector.

A fuel supply system and method of controlling fuel flow through a supply system is provided including a variable flow, i.e. speed, electric fuel transfer pump and a control system adapted to variably control the transfer pump based on fuel demand of the engine. The system provides improved transient response by providing the transfer pump with a feed forward speed/flow command based on engine fueling demand determined based on engine operating conditions. The transfer pump is controlled based on fuel demand not necessarily achieved yet by the high pressure pump and injectors. Therefore, this system controls the EFTP substantially simultaneously with controlling the high pressure pump and injectors to optimize fuel flow through the entire system ensuring the minimum required fuel flow is passing through the second the fuel filtration system, hence maximizing steady state fuel filtration efficiency, and minimizing surge effects on filtration efficiency.

Variable flow fuel transfer pump system and method

This disclosure provides a fuel line assembly for use with an internal combustion engine, an internal combustion engine including such as fuel line assembly, and a method for providing leak containment and detection in a fuel system, each of which include a double-walled fuel line including a high pressure fuel line component. The double-walled fuel line includes a high pressure fuel line, a jacket surrounding the high pressure fuel line, and a low pressure passage between the high pressure fuel line and the jacket. A fuel line nut includes a main body that houses a portion of the high pressure fuel line, and a first end portion supporting an enlarged end portion of the high pressure fuel line protruding from the first end portion. A second end portion of the fuel line nut sealingly connects to the jacket to extend the low pressure passage into an area between the main body and the housed high pressure fuel line. A fuel line connector mechanically and sealingly engages with the fuel line nut to house the supported enlarged end portion of the high pressure fuel line. The fuel line connector can connect to a single-walled high pressure tube provided in a bore of the cylinder head between an inlet of a fuel injector and the environment exterior of the cylinder head.
