Measuring the Torsional Vibration of a mechanical component using one or more cameras

Present embodiments pertain to systems, apparatuses, and methods for analyzing and reporting rotational or reciprocating movements in mechanical structures, machines, and machine components, including measuring the speed of rotation or reciprocation of a component on the structure, through the use of an acquired video recording representing a plurality of cycles of motion, by measuring intensity values of a subset of pixels contained in a region of interest within the video recording in a plurality of frames of the video recording, thereby determining distance per time period of rotational or reciprocal motion of a machine or machine component, and the application of numerical algorithm to the repeating patterns in the intensity waveform enables the determination of the average speed value or with the use of a gear wheel or graduated tape, instantaneous values for speed can be derived and the torsional vibration characteristics of the component determined.

Useful and meaningful machine characteristic information may be derived through analysis of oversampled digital data collected using dynamic signal analyzers, such as vibration analyzers. Such data have generally been discarded in prior art systems. In addition to peak values and decimated values, other oversampled values are used that are associated with characteristics of the machine being monitored and the sensors and circuits that gather the data. This provides more useful information than has previously been derived from oversampled data within a sampling interval.

Selective decimation and analysis of oversampled data

Graphics tools for interactive analysis of three-dimensional machine data

A method and apparatus identifies a region of interest of transient vibration data needing analysis and provides context and construction for analytical plots. The method provides transient data, determines a region of interest of the transient data, specifies a construction mode corresponding to a derived graphical display of the transient data, and specifies one or more construction parameters corresponding to the specified construction mode. The method also processes the transient data to produce at least one derived plot based on the transient data, the region of interest, the specified construction mode, and the specified construction parameters. This method may be performed by a graphical tool having a hardware module and a software module. The hardware module including a processor, a memory, a display, and a communicator, and the software module including a plotting module and a plot control module.

Method and apparatus for identifying a region of interest of transient vibration data requiring analysis

A data processing system includes a memory with instructions and data stored therein. A fuzzy spreadsheet is stored in memory and has a plurality of cells, preferably arranged in columns and rows. The processor, stored instructions and stored data comprise a controller that receives input data and stores representations in cells. These representations include representations of fuzzy values. Operations, such as arithmetic operations, are performed on the data stored in the cells, including the fuzzy values, to produce derived representations that are stored in the cells and may be fuzzy values or crisp numbers or text. To facilitate a user's appreciation of a particular fuzzy number, the spreadsheet selectively simultaneously displays two representations of a fuzzy value, namely, a centroid and a graph. Also, the processor converts crisp numbers to fuzzy numbers by a procedure whereby a gallery of graphs stored in memory is displayed and, in response to user commands, at least three crisp numbers are associated with the graph. The processor also defuzzifies numbers by replacing a representation of a fuzzy number in a cell of the spreadsheet with a centroid.
