A low cost and low air resistance belt support structure for an endless belt conveyor of an inkjet printer can be achieved with the belt support structure being provided over a suction chamber. The belt support structure includes a plurality of longitudinal, narrow support beams positioned spaced apart from one another and parallel to one another in a transport direction of the belt to define a flat support plane for the belt. The support beams provides a relatively small contact area with the belt, which results in low friction. The support beams further allow for a relatively large open area between them to achieve a low air resistance.

Belt support structure for a conveyor of an inkjet printer

A sheet transport system for moving a sheet in a transport direction while adjusting a position of the sheet in a lateral direction normal to the transport direction to a target position, includes first and second pinch roller sets spaced apart from one another in the transport direction, each pinch roller set including two pairs of pinch rollers spaced apart from one another in the lateral direction, each pair forming a nip for pinching and driving the sheet with an individually controllable speed; a detection system for detecting a position of the sheet in the lateral direction while the sheet is pinched by the first pinch roller set; and a control system configured for carrying out the following actions: by controlling the speeds of the pinch rollers of the first pinch roller set before the sheet has reached the second pinch roller set, rotating the sheet by a first rotation angle for adjusting a given reference point on a leading part of the sheet to its target position; and when the sheet has left the first pinch roller set and while the reference point travels along a path segment that is symmetric with respect to the second pinch roller set, rotating, by controlling the speeds of the pinch rollers of the second pinch roller set, the sheet by a second rotation angle for aligning a leading edge of the sheet in the lateral direction.

Sheet transport system

A support structure defining a flat support surface for supporting a web material includes a number of beams, each having a cross-section elongated in a first direction normal to the support surface. The beams have a ruler edge extending in a second direction in parallel with the support surface, which is defined by the ruler edges. The support structure includes a number of adjustment mechanisms for adjusting the positions of the ruler edges in the first direction. Each beam has a base part and a ruler part, the ruler part defining the ruler edge and being connected to the base part by at least three adjustment mechanisms distributed over the length of the beam. Each adjustment mechanism includes a lever that is pivotable relative to the base part about a fixed fulcrum, is connected to the ruler part, and has an adjustment arm with an adjustable free end.

Support structure defining a flat support surface

Method for holding substrates on a flatbed printing system. After positioning the substrates on the substrate support surface, a leak air area not covered by the substrates is covered by positioning a flexible cover device at least over the leak air area, and preferably over the substrates as well. Thereby, air flow through the through-holes is prevented. An under-pressure is then applied to the through-holes, sucking the substrates against the substrate support surface. The flexible cover device is then withdrawn to expose the substrate for printing while the under-pressure is maintained. It was found that despite the additional amount of air passing through the through-holes uncovered by the withdrawal of the flexible cover device, the under-pressure surprisingly remained sufficient to properly hold the substrates for printing. An additional advantage is that the cover device may be applied easily and rapidly over the leak air area and substrates at once.

A system including an ink bottle closure including a first closure member configured to be fixed to an ink bottle, the first closure member including a seal, arranged to be located over an outlet opening in a neck of the bottle and a second closure member attached to the first closure member and movable relative to the first closure member between a closed position, in which the second closure member covers the seal, and an open position in which the seal is exposed to be pierced or ruptured for dispensing ink from the bottle through the outlet opening, wherein the second closure member is movable in translation, relative to the first closure member between the closed position and the open position in a direction substantially perpendicular to a central or longitudinal axis of the bottle and a dispensing device for opening an ink bottle closure, including an adapter having a receiving area for receiving the ink bottle closure of an ink re-fill bottle with the bottle in an inverted orientation, a mechanism for moving the second closure member relative to the first closure member from a closed position, in which the second closure member covers the seal, to an open position in which the seal is exposed and a cutter arranged below the adapter substantially aligned with the receiving area, wherein the cutter is movable generally vertically between a lower position, in which the cutter is retracted from interaction with the ink bottle closure, and an upper position in which the cutter pierces or ruptures the exposed seal to dispense ink from the bottle.

A drive gear assembly for a roll that is detachably supported in a machine body, the assembly comprising a drive gear mounted for a rotation about a stationary axis in the machine body, a driven gear mounted on an end portion of the roller, and a bearing formed in the machine body for supporting said end portion in an operative position in which the drive gear meshes with the driven gear, the assembly further comprising by a safety cover that is pivotally supported on the machine body to be movable between an active position in which it covers at least a part of the periphery of the driven gear, except a portion where the drive gear meshes with the driven gear, and an open position in which it permits an insertion of the end portion of the roll into the bearing, the cover being elastically biased into the open position and having an engagement surface arranged to be engaged by at least one of the roll and the driven gear for holding the cover in the active position as long as the roll is in the operative position.

A toner bottle closure includes a first closure member configured to be fixed to a toner bottle. The first closure member has an outlet opening for dispensing toner. A second closure member is movable relative to the first closure member along an axis between a closed position, in which the second closure member cooperates with the first closure member to close or seal the outlet opening, and an open position for dispensing the toner. The second closure member includes an impact damper, which projects at least partially in a direction parallel to the axis of movement. The impact damper is configured to deform plastically for damping a mechanical impact on the toner bottle closure. A rotation preventer is configured to prevent rotation of the second closure member around the axis of movement relative to the first closure member. A toner bottle including such a toner bottle cap is also disclosed.

The present invention provides a refill adapter for coupling a closure of a toner bottle to a toner reservoir, the refill adapter comprising: a base having an insertion area for receiving the closure inserted therein and an opening mechanism for opening the closure, wherein the opening mechanism is configured to hold a first closure member of the closure and to move a second closure member of the closure relative to the first closure member along an axis between a closed position, in which the second closure member cooperates with the first closure member to close or seal an outlet opening of the closure, and an open position for dispensing toner from the toner bottle through the outlet opening into the toner reservoir; a sealing device comprising a first sealing part, which is fixed to the base, and a second sealing part, which is movable relative to the first sealing part, wherein the second sealing part is configured to be moved together with the second closure member along the axis and to thereby contact the second closure member for isolating an outer region of the closure from an inner region of the closure, which is in contact with toner. Furthermore, the invention provides a corresponding method of coupling a toner bottle to a toner reservoir, and a printing system comprising such a refill adapter and/or for performing such a method.

A device for redirecting sheets in a sheet transport mechanism, especially sheets of a print medium in a printing system includes a support member, which carries or supports at least one guide member for directing a path of travel of a sheet. The support member is configured to be mounted adjacent a first transport path of a plurality of sheets and such that the support member is movable between a first inoperative position in which the at least one guide member does not impinge upon the first transport path, and a second operative position in which the at least one guide member is introduced into the first transport path to redirect one or more of the sheets to a second, alternative transport path. The device further includes an actuator configured to move the support member between the first and second positions. The actuator is connected to the support member such that vibrations imparted by the actuator to the support member, as the support member moves between the first and the second positions, are substantially parallel to the first transport path.

Device for redirecting sheets in a printing system

The invention relates to a heat exchange laminate for use as a heat exchange member in a heat exchange unit, comprising a base layer extending substantially planar, said base layer being bilaterally coated with an electrical conductive contact layer. The contact layer comprises a high molecular weight polyethylene and a carbon black. The invention further relates to the use of the heat exchange laminate and to a heat exchange unit and a printing system comprising such a heat exchange laminate.

A toner bottle cap has a fixed member and a slide member. The fixed member is stationary relative to a toner bottle and defines a first flow passage. The slide member defines a second flow passage coaxially adjoining the first flow passage in a toner outflow direction and having a peripheral wall in sealing contact with a peripheral wall of the fixed member. The slide member is slideable relative to the fixed member in axial direction of the flow passages. One of the members has a wall part that restricts the cross-section of the flow passage of the one member and defines a toner outflow opening. The other of the members has a stop member projecting axially towards the outflow opening and closes the same when the slide member is in a closed position and opens the outflow opening when the slide member is slid in the toner outflow direction.
