Amphoteric derivatives of aliphatic polyamines, such as diethylenetriamine or bis (hexamethylene) triamine reacted with long chain fatty acids, esters or triglycerides from various natural or synthetic sources are effective in the softening/texture modification of substrates such as paper, textiles, human skin surfaces and hair tresses, as well as in applications for metal working and lubrication. The polyamines are first reacted with fatty acids, esters or triglycerides derived from various animal, vegetable or synthetic sources ranging in molecular distribution from butyric through erucic acids (e.g. milkfat, soy bean oil, rapeseed oil) to form amidoamines or imidazolines; and are then further reacted with unsaturated or carboxylated epoxy compounds (e.g. acrylic acid, itaconic acid, verndic) to form the various amphoteric structures.

There is provided a mild detergent toilet bar (syndet bar) composition containing from at least 25 percent up to about 65 percent by weight of synthetic surface active agents, which lathers, foams and wears well, exhibits minimal slushing and curd-forming properties in all types of water, possesses good plasticity and tactile properties while also being mild and non-injurious to the user's skin and readily processed with conventional soap-making equipment. The syndet bar compositions contain a) from about 15 to 35 percent by weight of acyl esters of isethionic acid salts; b) at least one sulfosuccinate in an amount from about 10 to about 30 percent by weight wherein the weight ratio of said acyl isethionate esters to sulfosuccinate is 0.5:1 to 2:1; c) free fatty acid in an amount from about 25 to 40 percent by weight; d) at least two percent up to about 10 percent by weight of an organic hydrophilic agent; e) an organic binder/filler in an amount from about five percent up to about 20 percent by weight; and f) Water in an amount from about two to 10 percent by weight.

A two-phase liquid cosmetic composition is provided comprising an oil phase, an organic liquid/water phase, and insoluble solid particles absorbed on the interface between the two phases wherein the solid particles comprise the in situ precipitation product of at least first and second salt solutions added to the oil phase and organic liquid/water phase during blending thereof. The insoluble salt precipitates facilitate dispersion of the oil phase in the form of 'spheres' or 'droplets' within the organic liquid/water phase thereby producing a liquid cosmetic having an aesthetically desirable appearance.
