A method of processing a stabilizer bar assembly includes casting a metal anti-shift collar onto a prefabricated stabilizer bar. The metal anti-shift collar may be a zinc alloy, an aluminum alloy, or a magnesium alloy, for example.

A method of manufacturing a vehicle suspension component, such as a helical coil spring, includes the step of rotating a first impeller to project ceramic peening media in a first direction toward the vehicle suspension component to peen a surface section of the vehicle suspension component. In one example, the vehicle suspension component is peened with metal peening media before peening with the ceramic peening media.

A shock absorber assembly includes a coil spring that reacts between first and second spring seats. The first spring seat is fixed to a shock cylinder and the second spring seat is fixed to a rod that is slidably received within the shock cylinder. An isolator is positioned between an end coil of the spring and at least one of the first and second spring seats. The isolator comprises an annular ring that defines a cavity that is at least partially filled with fluid. The isolator evenly distributes non-centered spring end forces through the fluid to reduce the effects of side load forces.

A stabilizer bar assembly includes bushings secured to the bar such that there is no relative rotary movement between an inner surface on the bushings and an outer surface on the bar. In one example embodiment, the bushings are adhesively secured to the bar. In another example, the bushings are molded directly onto the bar. In example embodiments adhesively securing the bushing to the bar, a post bond adhesive is used and cured during a paint curing step after paint has been applied to the bar. Various example assemblies and methods of manufacturing are disclosed.

The invention comprises a vehicle strut assembly. A strut has a first seat mounted to the strut and a second seat mounted to a vehicle body. A spring is mounted between the first seat and the second seat and is disposed around the strut. The spring has a compressed state and an uncompressed state. In the compressed state, the spring has a middle portion that defines a spring centerline. In the uncompressed state, the spring has ends portions extending towards opposite sides of the spring centerline.

A method of forming a stabilizer bar is provided that includes the steps of roll forming sheet metal coil into a continuous tube. Next, a first portion of the continuous tube is flattened. The first portion of the continuous tube is sheared to define a first end. Next, a second portion of the continuous tube is flattened. The continuous tube is sheared at the second portion to define a final unit length with a second end opposite the first end. That is, the length is sheared from the rest of the continuous tube. The final length is the length is needed to form a single stabilizer bar. Finally, the final unit length is deformed into the desired stabilizer bar shape.

Forged in-line tubular process

A suspension assembly is provided for use in stabilizing a vehicle during turning maneuvers. The suspension assembly includes a frame and the stabilizer bar secured to the frame by a bracket. A bushing having a hole along an axis receives the stabilizer bar. The bushing has a first portion disposed between the bracket and the stabilizer bar with the stabilizer bar supported by the first portion in a slip-fit relationship. A second portion extends from the first portion along the axis with a tether portion connecting the first and second portions. A notch is arranged adjacent to the tether portion and separates the first and second portions. Preferably, the notch and tether portion provide a frangible connection between the first and second portions. A clamp is supported on the second portion to secure the second portion to the stabilizer bar thereby preventing relative rotation between the second portion and the stabilizer bar. In this manner, the stabilizer bar is prevented from moving laterally relative to the frame. The bushing is preferably installed onto the stabilizer bar as a unit. The stabilizer bar is secured to the frame with the bracket arranged over the first portion of the bushing assembly.
