A mild hydrocracking process for the hydrodemetallation (HDM), hydrodesulfurization (HDS) and hydroconversion (HC) of hydrocarbon feedstocks such as residuum feedstocks which provides increased conversion and increased yields of middle distillates is disclosed. The process utilizes a catalyst comprising about 1.0 to about 6.0 wt. % of an oxide of a Group VIII metal, about 12.0 to about 25.0 wt. % of an oxide of molybdenum and 0 to about 5.0 wt. % of an oxide of phosphorus supported on a porous alumina support containing about 0.1 to about 10.0 wt. % of lithium oxide.

Mild hydrocracking of heavy hydrocarbon feedstocks employing lithia

A process for catalytic hydrodewaxing hydrocarbon feedstocks is disclosed. The catalyst comprises a surface-modified crystalline aluminosilicate zeolite, such as ZSM-5 type zeolite in a matrix or binder, such as alumina, having a specified metals content. The process is especially useful for dewaxing lubricating oil basestocks.

Process for catalytic dewaxing of hydrocarbon feedstocks

Charge waxy hydrocarbon is converted to lube oil base stock by hydrotreating in the presence of catalyst characterized by its ability to convert a waxy hydrocarbon distillate of high pour point to a hydrocarbon product of reduced pour point and high viscosity index, suitable for use as a lube oil base stock, which comprises a support containing about 2-50 w % silica and 50-98 w % alumina, bearing 2-10 w % of a non-noble Group VIII metal, as metal, metal oxide, or metal sulfide, about 8-20 w % of a Group VI-B metal, as metal, metal oxide, or metal sulfide, less than 0.5% halogen; and 0-2 w % of phosphorus, the atom ratio of Group VIII metal to Group VI-B metal being about 0.3-2:1, said catalyst being characterized by a micropore mode of about 60-130 .ANG. diameter, a Total Surface Area of about 150-300 m.sup.2 /g, a Total Pore Volume of about 0.45-0.9 cc/g and a Pore Volume of pores with pore diameter &gt;500 .ANG. of about 0.02-0.25 cc/g.

Wax conversion process

A process for hydrodewaxing a hydrocarbon feedstock boiling above about 350.degree. F. by contacting the feedstock and hydrogen at a hydrogen pressure of from about 300 to about 2000 psig at a temperature of 400.degree. to 900.degree. F. and at a space velocity of about 0.1 to about 10.0 LHSV with a catalyst comprising about 0.1 to about 23 wt. % of an oxide of a Group VIII metal, such as nickel, or an oxide of a Group VIB metal, such as molybdenum; supported on a porous alumina support containing about 50 to about 85 wt. % of a crystalline alumino-silicate zeolite of the ZSM-5 type based on the weight of the support. The catalyst is further characterized by having greater than 60% of the pore volume between 45-600 Angstroms in the 70-200 Angstrom range. The process is especially useful for dewaxing lubricating oil basestocks.

Catalytic process for dewaxing hydrocarbon feedstocks

The process utilizes a catalyst comprising about 1.0 to about 6.0 wt. % of an oxide of a Group VIII metal, about 12.0 to about 25.0 wt. % of an oxide of molybdenum and about 0 to about 5.0 wt. % of an oxide of phosphorus supported on a porous alumina support containing about 0.1 to about 10.0 wt. % of lithium oxide.

An improved process for fluid catalytic cracking or hydrocarbons employing a Y zeolite in a silica-alumina matrix and containing from about 0.1 to about 5 weight percent fluorine. The catalyst is prepared by contacting a Y zeolite in a silica-alumina matrix with an aqueous solution of a fluorine compound, preferably an aqueous solution of hydrogen fluoride, for a period of 16 to 24 hours, followed by drying and calcining the resultant fluorided cracking catalyst. The process of cracking hydrocarbons with these catalysts produces improved yields of motor fuel fractions of improved octane number as compared with processes employing unfluorided cracking catalysts.

Catalytic cracking process

An improved zeolite-containing cracking catalyst prepared by treating a zeolite-containing cracking catalyst with an aqueous solution containing a fluorine compound, drying and calcining the fluorided catalyst. In a preferred embodiment, the fluorinating solution is an aqueous solution of hydrogen fluoride. The fluorided catalyst may be used per se as a cracking catalyst, or may be physically mixed with a metallic reforming catalyst for use as a cracking catalyst. The fluorided cracking catalysts exhibit improved activity and yield higher octane products than unfluorided cracking catalysts.

Fluorided cracking catalyst

A hydrocracking process for the conversion of heavy hydrocarbon oils and a catalyst therefore which comprises a hydrogenating component and a cracking component including a modified crystalline zeolite and at least one amorphous inorganic oxide support material. The process includes a method of treatment of the catalyst for mildly promoting the activity of fresh catalyst or partially restoring the activity of spent catalyst.

Hydrocracking process and catalyst

A catalytic process for the oxidation of sulfur-containing gases, e.g., sulfur dioxide and simultaneous production of sulfuric acid wherein a sulfur-containing gas is reacted with an oxygen-containing gas in the presence of a catalyst comprising an iron group metal on a solid support comprising a zeolite in a silica-alumina matrix.

Sulfur dioxide oxidation catalyst and process

Disclosed is a shaped catalyst composed of finely divided particles of binary or ternary boride compounds having the general formula M.sub.x B.sub.y or M.sub.x B.sub.y R.sub.2 wherein x is an integer from 1-5; y is an integer from 1-2; z is an integer from 1-4; B is boron; M is an element selected from the groups II-A, III-B, IV-B, V-B, VI-B, VII-B, VIII, III-A, IV-A, and V-A of the Periodic Table, the rare earths, and the actinides; R is an element different from M selected from the same group of elements in the Periodic Table as M; the particles being bonded by 1 to 10% by weight of finely divided particles of preoxidized aluminum, zinc, or magnesium. The preferred catalyst materials are those boron-containing substances which are substantially insoluble in the reaction mixture containing the organic hydroperoxides olefins and products and which are bonded by heat treated aluminum particles having an oxide coating constituting from 5 to 10 percent of the particles. Also disclosed is a method for the liquid phase epoxidation of an olefinic compound with an organic hydroperoxide at temperatures of about 90 to 130.degree. C at a pressure sufficient to maintain the mixture substantially in liquid phase in the presence of a catalytically effective amount of the novel catalyst material.

Shaped, bonded boride catalysts

Disclosed is a shaped catalyst composed of finely divided particles of binary or ternary boride compounds having the general formula M.sub.x B.sub.y or M.sub.x B.sub.y R.sub.2 wherein x is an integer from 1-5; y is an integer from 1-2; z is an integer from 1-4; B is boron; M is an element selected from the groups II-A, III-B, IV-B, V-B, VI-B, VII-B, VIII, III-A, IV-A, and V-A of the Periodic Table, the rare earths, and the actinides; R is an element different from M selected from the same group of elements in the Periodic Table as M; the particles being bonded by 1 to 10% by weight of finely divided particles of preoxidized aluminum, zinc, or magnesium. The preferred catalyst materials are those boron-containing substances which are substantially insoluble in the reaction mixture containing the organic hydroperoxides olefins and products and which are bonded by heat treated aluminum particles having an oxide coating constituting from 5 to 10 percent of the particles. Also disclosed is a method for the liquid phase epoxidation of an olefinic compound with an organic hydroperoxide at temperatures of about 90.degree. to 130.degree. C at a pressure sufficient to maintain the mixture substantially in liquid phase in the presence of a catalytically effective amount of the novel catalyst material.

The deactivation rate of a catalyst used for the high temperature, high space velocity desulfurization of heavy oils is reduced by the incorporation in the catalyst of a small amount of a noble metal.
