Certain aspects of the present disclosure provide an apparatus. The apparatus comprises a support structure comprising at least one microphone sensor, and a first material layer disposed adjacent to the support structure, wherein a first layer of air is formed between the first material layer and the support structure, the first layer of air being adjacent to the microphone sensor. In certain aspects, multiple material layers may be used, each of the material layers forming a layer of air. For instance, the apparatus may also include a second material layer disposed adjacent to the first material layer, wherein a second layer of air is formed between the first material layer and the second material layer.

Techniques for wind noise reduction

A directional acoustic device with an acoustic source or an acoustic receiver and a conduit to which the acoustic source or acoustic receiver is acoustically coupled and within which acoustic energy travels in a propagation direction from the acoustic source or to the acoustic receiver. The conduit has a radiating portion that has a radiating surface with leak openings that define controlled leaks through which acoustic energy radiated from the source into the conduit can leak to the outside environment or through which acoustic energy in the outside environment can leak into the conduit. The radiating surface has a thin sheet with openings through the sheet, and a cover material with a greater acoustic resistance than an acoustic resistance of an opening. The cover material covers at least parts of at least some of the openings, to define controlled acoustic leaks into or out of the conduit.

Directional acoustic device and method of manufacturing a directional acoustic device

The technology described in this document can be embodied in an apparatus that includes an array of multiple microphones, and a passive directional acoustic element disposed between at least two of the multiple microphones. The passive directional acoustic element includes a pipe having an elongated opening along at least a portion of the length of the pipe, and an acoustically resistive material covering at least a portion of the elongated opening. One or more structural characteristics of the passive acoustic element is configured for capturing a target frequency range in accordance with a target beam pattern associated with the array.

A method for manufacturing a loudspeaker includes creating a dual-layered fabric having an acoustic resistance by attaching a first fabric having a first acoustic resistance to a second fabric having a second acoustic resistance lower than the first acoustic resistance. The method further includes applying a coating material to a first portion of the dual-layered fabric. The coating material forms a pattern on the first portion of the dual-layered fabric that changes the acoustic resistance of the dual-layered fabric along at least one of: a length and radius of the dual-layered fabric.

Method of manufacturing a loudspeaker

A directional acoustic device that has an acoustic source or an acoustic receiver, and a conduit to which the acoustic source or acoustic receiver is acoustically coupled and within which acoustic energy travels in a propagation direction from the acoustic source or to the acoustic receiver, the conduit having finite extent at which the conduit structure ends. The conduit has a radiating portion that has a radiating surface with leak openings that define controlled leaks through which acoustic energy radiated from the source into the conduit can leak to the outside environment or through which acoustic energy in the outside environment can leak into the conduit. The only path for acoustic energy in the conduit to reach the external environment or acoustic energy in the external environment to enter the conduit is through the controlled leaks. The leak openings define leaks having a first extent in the propagation direction, and also define leaks having a second extent at locations along the conduit with a constant time delay relative to the location of the source or receiver. The extents of the leaks are determinative of the lowest frequency where useful directivity control is obtained. The lowest frequency of directivity control for the leak in the propagation direction is within three octaves of the lowest frequency of directivity control for the leak with constant time delay.
