The invention provides for a process for dewaxing a waxy hydrocarbon feedstock to form a lubricant oil. The invention is also directed to a catalyst system comprising a hydrotreating catalyst upstream of a dewaxing catalyst, used in the dewaxing of a waxy hydrocarbon feedstock to form a lubricant oil. In particular, the invention is directed to a process and catalyst system designed to maintain yield of lubricant oil product. Specifically, the yield of lubricant oil does not decrease more than 2%, at a target pour point, over a dewaxing temperature range. The hydrotreating catalyst helps prevent aging of the dewaxing catalyst and maintains lubricant oil product yield at a target pour point over a wide temperature range. The hydrotreating catalyst comprises platinum, palladium, or combinations thereof on a low acidity inorganic oxide support where acidity is measured by a decalin conversion of less than 10% at 700&#xb0; F.

Process and catalyst system for improving dewaxing catalyst stability and lubricant oil yield

The invention is directed to a method of making a small crystal SSZ-32 zeolite, known as SSZ-32X. The catalyst is suitable for use in a process whereby a feed including straight chain and slightly branched paraffins having 10 or more carbon atoms is dewaxed to produce an isomerized product, with increased yield of isomerized material and decreased production of light ends.

The invention is directed to a method of making a catalyst comprising an intermediate pore size molecular sieve, preferably a zeolite of the MTT or TON type. SSZ-32 and ZSM-22 are examples of such molecular sieves. This catalyst is modified with a metal or metals selected from the group consisting of Ca, Cr, Mg, La, Ba, Pr, Sr, K and Nd. The catalyst is additionally loaded with a Group VIII metal or metals for hydrogenation purposes. The catalyst is suitable for use in a process whereby a feed including straight chain and slightly branched paraffins having 10 or more carbon atoms is isomerized.

Lube base stocks and lube stock compositions, as well as a process for preparing lube base stocks and lube stock compositions, are disclosed. The lube oils preferably have a viscosity index above about 115. The process involves obtaining feedstocks that have a 95% point below 1150&deg; F. and feedstocks that have 95% point above 1150&deg; F. The feedstocks that have a 95% point below 1150&deg; F. are catalytically dewaxed, and the feedstocks that have 95% point above 1150&deg; F. are solvent dewaxed. The resulting products can optionally be blended, and the base stocks can be combined with various additives to form lube oil compositions. Hydrotreatment can optionally be performed on the lube base stocks to remove olefins, oxygenates and other impurities. In one embodiment, one or more of the fractions are obtained from Fischer-Tropsch synthesis. One or more of the fractions can also be obtained from other sources, for example, via distillation of crude oil, provided that the fractions do not include appreciable amounts (i.e., amounts which would adversely affect the catalyst used for catalytic isodewaxing) of thiols or amines. The individual fractions can also include combinations of feedstocks, from Fischer-Tropsch and other sources.

Process for preparing lubes with high viscosity index values

A base oil feed having a tendency to form a haze at ambient or sub-ambient temperatures is contacted with a solid adsorbent to remove at least a portion of the haze precursors, thereby reducing the haze-forming tendency of the base oil feed.

Haze-free lubricating oils

A dewaxed oil having a tendency to form a haze at ambient or sub-ambient temperatures is contacted with a solid adsorbent to remove at least a portion of the haze precursors, thereby reducing the haze-forming tendency of the dewaxed oil.
