A system is provided for advanced health monitoring and diagnosis based on wearable nano-biosensing networks. Nanophotonic and wireless communication technologies are synergistically leveraged to bridge the gap between nano-biosensing technologies and commercial wearable devices. Embodiments of the presently-disclosed system may include: (1) a nanoplasmonic biochip, implanted subcutaneously and built on a flexible substrate; (2) a nanophotonic smart band or wearable device that is able to collect in-vivo signals on-demand and relay them wirelessly to the user's smartphone by means of a secure data transfer; and (3) advanced signal processing techniques implemented on a remote processor to extract relevant data from the received signals and provide a diagnosis in real-time.

Smart healthcare system

A plasmonic phase modulator is provided. The modulator has a conductive layer, and a dielectric layer disposed on the conductive layer. A plasmonic layer is disposed on the dielectric layer. A plasmonic layer is disposed on the dielectric layer. The plasmonic layer is conductive to surface plasmon polariton (SPP) waves. The plasmonic layer may be, for example, a graphene sheet. A voltage signal source is operatively connected between the conductive layer and the plasmonic layer for modulating a propagation speed of an SPP wave propagating on the plasmonic layer.

Plasmonic phase modulator and method of modulating an SPP wave

A communication system includes a two-dimensional array of a plurality of plasmonic nano-antennas. Each plasmonic nano-antenna supports a surface plasmon polariton wave. A plurality of communications elements each excite a corresponding one of the plasmonic nano-antennas, thereby causing a surface plasmon polariton wave that corresponds to a signal to form on each of the plasmonic nano-antennas.

Ultra massive MIMO communication in the terahertz band

An antenna system includes an elongated conductive plane and an elongated dielectric layer that is disposed on the conductive plane. An elongated graphene nanoribbon is disposed along an axis and is coupled to the dielectric layer at a graphene/dielectric interface. A feeding mechanism is coupled to the conductive plane. The feeding mechanism is configured to accept a signal that excites surface plasmon polariton waves at the graphene/dielectric interface. In a method of making a surface plasmon polariton wave antenna, an elongated conductive plane is formed. An elongated dielectric layer is applied on a surface of the conductive plane. An elongated graphene nanoribbon is applied to the dielectric layer. A signal source is coupled to the elongated conductive plane.

Graphene-based plasmonic nano-antenna for terahertz band communication

A communication element includes a high electron mobility transistor including a gate layer. A graphene layer is disposed on the gate layer. A communication system includes a signal source, a plasmonic transmitter, a first plasmonic antenna, a second plasmonic antenna, a plasmonic receiver and a signal detector. The signal source generates a transmitted signal. The plasmonic transmitter generates a first surface plasmonic polariton wave signal corresponding to the transmitted signal. The first plasmonic antenna generates an electromagnetic signal corresponding to the surface plasmon polariton wave signal. The second plasmonic antenna generates a second surface plasmon polariton wave signal corresponding to the electromagnetic signal. The plasmonic receiver generates a received signal corresponding to the second surface plasmon polariton wave signal. The signal detector detects the received signal.
