A user equipment (UE), which is operable in EUTRA networks and in NR networks, can perform a capability transfer procedure. The UE can compile EUTRA capabilities of the UE. The UE can further compile NR capabilities of the UE. The UE can transmit one or more UE capability information messages with the compiled EUTRA capabilities and NR capabilities to a base station in an EUTRA network, characterized in that the NR capabilities are compiled subject to a capability size limit, which corresponds to a supported size of a container in a handover message sent on an inter-RAT interface between Evolved Packet Core and 5G Core.

Reset of dynamic allowed area list for a UE

The embodiments herein relate to a method performed by an AMF () for handling handover. The AMF () receives one of: a handover required message and a first request message. The handover required message is received from an S-RAN () and the first request message is received from another AMF () in response to the handover required message. The AMF () sends to a SMF (), a set of one or more first request messages and activates a timer. The AMF () determines whether at least one of the following is true: a certain amount of time has elapsed since the timer was activated and the AMF () has received a first PDU response message for each one of the first PDU request messages. The AMF () transmits a handover request message to a T-RAN () as a result of determining that at least one of the conditions is true.

Method and nodes for mobility on demand enforcements

An Access and Mobility Management Function (AMF) provides the UE with a UE Reporting Area, URA. The URA is a sub-area of the Reporting Area, RA and is defined by a set of cells, gNBs or traffic area identifiers, TAIs, or a combination of them. The UE sends a notification to the AMF when it crosses the border of URA. The AMF determines the URA by retrieving or determining a RA for the UE, retrieving a PRA of the UE, and determining the URA in dependence on the RA and PRA.

Presence reporting areas for the UE

A UE is configured such that, when in MICO mode, the UE does not transmit certain messages (e.g., Service Request, periodic registration update message) whenever there is a risk that the certain message will not be routed to the UE's serving AMF. In some embodiments, the network (e.g., serving AMF) indicates to the UE in MICO mode an area (parts of, or the entire PLMN) that is covered by the serving AMF, the Within Serving AMF (WSA) area. While the UE is within the indicated WSA area, the UE in MICO mode may continue to use periodic registration area update or Service Requests (instead of the more extensive mobility registration update procedure) as there is no risk of addressing a new AMF in that area.

A method performed by an AMF is provided. The method includes determining an elapsed time value (&#x3b4;). The method further includes determining whether the elapsed time value is less than a negotiated NAS periodic timer (&#x3c4;). The AMF is configured such that, as a result of the AMF determining that &#x3b4;&#x3c;&#x3c4;, the AMF transitions the UE to CM-IDLE state and starts a NAS periodic timer with a value equal to &#x3c4;&#x2212;&#x3b4;.
