A method for localizing an on-board unit, which has a radio transceiver and an identifier, to a predefined area around a radio beacon, comprising the following steps: a) storing the identifier and an associated radio property in a database; b) sending a first request; c) receiving a first response from an on-board unit; d) determining, from the database, the radio property of the transceiver associated with the received identifier; and e) localizing the on-board unit in the predefined area; wherein: the steps b) to e) are repeated, for each run-through of the steps b) to e), a localization result is stored in a presence list, and the localizing is verified when the number of the positive localization results exceeds a threshold value.

Method and radio beacon for localising an on-board unit

System and method for determining the distance between a radio beacon and a vehicle device passing in the radio beacon, in a road toll system. A signal having a known temporal profile is emitted by one of the radio beacon and vehicle device. The signal is captured in the other component during the passing of the device and the temporal profile of the frequency is recorded in relation to the known temporal profile; a modification in the recoded frequency profile exceeding a first threshold value is detected; two distant wave zones in the frequency profile, lying temporally in front of and behind the detected modification are determined, the zones displaying a frequency modification below a second threshold value are searched for; the recorded frequency profile is scaled in such a way that the distant wave zones take the predetermined values; and the distance is determined from the scaled frequency profile.

Method and device for determining the distance between a radio beacon and an onboard unit

The invention relates to a method for determining the distance between a radio beacon and a vehicle device passing in front of said radio beacon, in a road toll system. A signal of a frequency having a known temporal profile is emitted. Said method consists of the following steps: the signal is captured in the other component when passing and the temporal profile of the frequency is recorded in relation to the known temporal profile; a modification in the recorded frequency profile exceeding a first threshold value is detected; two distant wave zones in the frequency profile, lying temporally in front of and behind the detected modification, which displays a frequency modification below a second threshold value, are searched for; the recorded frequency profile is scaled in such a manner that the distance wave zones take the predetermined values; and said distance 'a' from the scaled frequency path is determined. The invention also relates to radio beacons, installations and vehicle devices for implementing the method.

A method and onboard unit for radio communication between a radio beacon and an onboard unit with a transceiver as part of a road toll system, wherein the radio beacon has a limited radio coverage area and the onboard unit has two operating modes, i.e. a first energy-consuming working mode and a second energy-saving resting mode, and can be changed from the resting mode to the working mode by a signal received from the radio beacon. The method comprises: receiving a signal in the onboard unit and as a result, changing the onboard unit to the working mode, if this was previously in the resting mode, within a prompt time; transmitting a response signal, which contains at least one information message concerning the operating mode of the onboard unit before receipt of the signal, from the onboard unit to the radio beacon; and on the basis of the received operating mode information selecting by means of the radio beacon whether the remaining part of the radio communication is to be conducted with the onboard unit for a longer or shorter duration.
