A method is disclosed for operating an electrical system of a motor vehicle, said electrical system comprising a first power source for providing an operating voltage for at least one partial onboard network of the electrical system and at least a second power source, wherein an electrically conductive connection of the first power source to the electrical system is monitored for an intentional interruption and, in the event of a detected intentional interruption of the electrically conductive connection, the at least one second power source of the electrical system is separated therefrom or deactivated. A motor vehicle with an onboard electrical system and a control device, for execution of the method, are also disclosed.

Disclosed is a method allowing the advantageous operation of an on-board electrical system () of a motor vehicle without high energy expenditure. Provided is an on-board electrical system () comprising a vehicle battery (), an electrical load () and a double-layer capacitor () with a positive and a negative terminal (). Switching means () are provided that couple the positive terminal () with the vehicle battery () and the negative terminal () with the electrical load () in a first switching state, and that have at least one additional switching state. In the first switching state, an overvoltage can be compensated since the double-layer capacitor () is connected in series with opposite polarity to the vehicle battery (). Preferably, the polarity of the double-layer capacitor () can be reversed, and the latter can be bridged. The switching means () can also assume a switching state in which the electrical load () is decoupled from the vehicle battery ().

On-board electrical system for a motor vehicle and method for operating an electrical load

To operate a safety load in a vehicle electric system and compensate for power surges, a vehicle electric system has a vehicle battery, an electric load, an energy storage device in form of double-layer capacitor, and a switching assembly. In a first switching state, the system can compensate for a power surge by connecting the double-layer capacitor in series with the vehicle battery with opposite polarity. The vehicle electric system also has an additional load, for example for providing functionality that is relevant for the safety of the vehicle occupants. The additional load can be supplied with a voltage present at the vehicle battery and/or with a voltage present at the electric load. A DC-to-DC converter taps an electric voltage present at the energy store and converts the tapped voltage into a supply voltage, with which the additional load can be redundantly supplied.

Disclosed is a motor vehicle comprising a generator and at least one capacitor in which recuperation power generated in a thrust phase by the generator that can be operated as a recuperator can be stored. The excitation current (I) that limits the power of the generator () can be varied in the excitation circuit of the generator () in accordance with at least one vehicle-specific operational parameter and/or the actual charge of the capacitor ().

In order to prevent discharge of the battery () of a motor vehicle during operation of heavy current consumption devices, a circuit configuration is to be prepared which comprises essentially a rotary current generator (), a vehicle battery (), one or more current consuming devices (), and a controllable voltage converter (). The voltage converter () supplies an output voltage which varies as a function of the control signal of a control unit () of the current generator () and which supplies the current consuming device (). In the event of overloading of the rotary current generator () the output voltage of the voltage converter () is lowered in order to reduce the current consumption of the device () and prevent overloading of the rotary current generator () and discharge of the vehicle battery ().
