Radiometric systems may comprise a radiometer, an antenna and a processor communicatively coupled together. The processor may provide a contact-focused output based on filtering or other processing of a raw radiometric output signal. The contact-focused output may facilitate determination of whether contact has been achieved and/or assessment of contact. A miniaturized reflectometer may be configured to determine an amount of reflected power from the antenna. The processor may be configured to determine a reflection coefficient of the reflected power determined by the reflectometer and to identify tissue type based on the reflection coefficient. Systems and methods for facilitating deeper temperature measurements of a radiometer are described.

Radiometric tissue contact and tissue type detection

An intravascular lithotripsy catheter can include a sheath, first and second insulated wires, and a carrier. The first and second insulated wires can include exposed portions of an electrically conductive member and can be wound around the sheath. Exposed portions of the first and second insulated wires that form an emitter can be circumferentially offset from each other and can be longitudinally offset from each other. The carrier can encase the first and second insulated wires and the sheath and can comprise a plurality of carrier openings aligned with the exposed portions of the first and second insulated wires. The catheter can electrically connect to an energy generator that is operable to cause a spark to travel longitudinally along the catheter and circumferentially around the catheter between the exposed portions.

Intravascular lithotripsy catheter

An intravascular lithotripsy system can include a sheath configured to receive a guidewire, at least three insulated wires, and an energy generator. Each of the at least three insulated wires can comprise at least two exposed portions spaced from one another along a length of the insulated wire. The at least three insulated wires can be helically wound around the sheath and independently electrically connected with an energy generator. The exposed portions of the at least three insulated wires can define a plurality of emitters spaced from one another along a length of the sheath and which are independently operable by the energy generator. The energy generator can induce a spark via each of the plurality of emitters.

The working channel is configured for slidably receiving the elongated shaft. The pulmonary access device further comprises a handle assembly including a handle body. The handle body is affixed to a proximal end of the elongated shaft. The handle body is removably affixed to a proximal end of the elongated sheath.

Lung access device

Systems, devices and methods of determining orientation of a distal end of a medical instrument (e.g., electrode-tissue orientation of an RF ablation catheter) are described herein. One or more processors may be configured to receive temperature measurements from each of a plurality of temperature-measurement devices distributed along a length of the distal end of the medical instrument and determine the orientation from a group of two or more possible orientation options based on whether temperature measurement values or characteristics of temperature response determined from the temperature measurement values satisfy one or more orientation criteria.

Methods of determining catheter orientation

A method comprises introducing an ablation catheter assembly into a heart chamber of the patient, deploying an ablative loop structure from an elongated shaft of the ablation catheter assembly, placing the ablative loop structure in an expanded geometry, disposing the expanded ablative loop structure on the endocardial tissue around an ostium of a blood vessel extending from the heart chamber, activating the ablative loop structure, thereby creating a circumferential lesion around the ostium of the blood vessel, disposing the ablative shaft distal end, when the ablative loop structure is housed within the elongated shaft, at a target region of the endocardial tissue remote from the ostium of the blood vessel, and activating the ablative shaft distal end, thereby creating another lesion at the target region.

Multi-use endocardial ablation catheter

A pulmonary access device comprises an elongated shaft having a proximal shaft section, a bendable shaft section, a distal shaft section, and a channel. The pulmonary access device further comprises a profiled stylet configured for being disposed in the working channel of the elongated shaft, the profiled stylet having a proximal stylet section with a first lateral stiffness profile, an intermediate stylet section having a second lateral stiffness profile less than the first lateral stiffness profile, a distal stylet section, wherein, when the profiled stylet is disposed in the working channel of the elongated shaft, the intermediate stylet section axially aligns with the bendable shaft section. The pulmonary access device further comprises a pull wire affixed to the distal shaft section, such that, when the pull wire is tensioned, the bendable shaft section bends, thereby deflecting the distal shaft section relative to the proximal shaft section.

According to some embodiments, a medical instrument (for example, an ablation device) comprises an elongate body having a proximal end and a distal end, an energy delivery member positioned at the distal end of the elongate body, a first plurality of temperature-measurement devices carried by or positioned within the energy delivery member, the first plurality of temperature-measurement devices being thermally insulated from the energy delivery member, and a second plurality of temperature-measurement devices positioned proximal to a proximal end of the energy delivery member, the second plurality of temperature-measurement devices being thermally insulated from the energy delivery member.

In some embodiments, a method comprises obtaining a first detected voltage between a first electrode and a second electrode, wherein the first and second electrodes are positioned along an electrode assembly of the ablation catheter, and wherein the first electrode is distal to the second electrode, obtaining a second detected voltage between the second electrode and a third electrode, the third electrode positioned proximal to the second electrode.

A steerable biopsy device comprises an outer sheath comprising a sheath body having a proximal sheath section and a distal sheath section. The outer sheath further comprises a distal sheath tip and a sheath lumen terminating at a distal port in the distal sheath tip. The biopsy device further comprises a biopsy needle integrated with the sheath body. The biopsy needle is slidably disposed in the sheath lumen. The biopsy needle comprises a needle shaft and a distal needle tip configured for being displaced between a stored position within the sheath lumen and a deployed position outside of the distal port of the distal sheath tip. The biopsy device further comprises an articulation control actuator configured for articulating the distal sheath section, and a needle actuator configured for distally advancing the distal needle tip from the stored position to the deployed position.
