The invention relates to a method for printing printed material which is individualized with logistical printed image elements, wherein at least one printed image, particularly a static printed image, which is printed in a printing machine, is individualized by technically adding at least one dynamic logistical printed image element. According to the invention, data of the/each dynamic logistical printed image element is combined in such a way that the/each printed image and the/each logistical printed image element are automatically updated by comparing data between a data bank provided by a print job user and a data bank provided by a logistics provider prior to printing the printed material individualized with the/each logistical printed image element.

Method for printing printed material, which is individualized with logistic print-image elements

A printing unit having at least one press unit, the, or each, press unit having at least one form cylinder, a transfer cylinder, an inking unit and preferably a damping unit, and having at least one imaging device for imaging and/or de-imaging a rewritable and erasable printing form positioned on the form cylinder. The inking unit, if appropriate together with the damping unit, can be pivoted with respect to a form cylinder from a printing position into a rest position. The imaging device can be pivoted with respect to the form cylinder from an imaging position into a rest position. The imaging device is pivoted into a rest position when the inking unit and, if appropriate, damping unit is pivoted into the printing position and, when the imaging device is pivoted into the imaging position, the inking unit and, if appropriate, the damping unit is pivoted into a rest position.

Printing unit for a press

A device for producing a coating on printed products from a printing press is provided. The coating device can be actuated digitally via printing image data thereby allowing the coating motif to be designed in a variable manner The coating device can include an inkjet printer in the form of an inkjet head array or an inkjet head bar acting as a varnishing unit that operates line-by-line on large-format printing material. The coating device can also be integrated in a rotary press having a varnishing unit for coating a printing material that has been processed in the printing press. The coating device can also be integrated with a dryer. The printing material can be passed under the outlet openings of the inkjet heads and the dryer can be arranged directly after the inkjet printer in the transport direction of the printing material in order to dry the liquid coating material on the printing material after the application.

Device for producing a coating on printed products from a printing press

A method of producing a printing plate on a cylindrical printing-plate carrier includes subdividing the printing-plate carrier by computation in terms of its width and axial length into at least two circumferential subareas. Then an actual transfer characteristic curve for each subarea is determined and compared by computation with a predetermined desired printing characteristic curve for each subarea to find a deviation. The method further includes calculating a correction to compensate for each deviation; receiving a digital image data in a first data format using a raster image processor; converting the digital image data into machine-specific image data including the position and the tonal value in the form of a bitmap; applying the correction for a predetermined desired printing characteristic curve for the edition print to the machine-specific image data using the raster image processor; and supplying the corrected machine-specific image data to an imagesetting unit.

Method of producing a printing plate on a cylindrical printing-plate carrier in a rotary printing press

A printing machine for multicolor printing which includes a plurality of printing units and a system for transporting and guiding either sheet-type or web-type printable matter through the printing units. The guiding system includes means, such as adhesive, contact pressure, or retaining belts, for maintaining the printable matter on a transfer belt in proper registry during transfer through the successive printing units.

Combined printing machine

In order to simplify the sequence of creating a mask, in particular for producing a printing plate, and at the same time to improve the quality of the printing plate produced by means of a mask, the use of laser-induced thermal transfer is provided. The structure information is applied directly to the surface of a printing plate carrier during the creation of a mask, by means of a thermal transfer film and a laser image-setting unit, so that by means of the structure information applied, differentiation with regard to image points and non-image points can be carried out directly in order to produce a printing plate.

Inking unit rolls include at least one ink applicator roll, which rotates in an ink fountain filled with printing ink and picks up printing ink from the latter, and a plate cylinder, which serves as a printing plate carrier and onto which ink can be transferred, directly or indirectly, by the ink applicator roll. The short inking unit is therefore equipped with a small number of inking unit rolls and, at the same time, nevertheless ensures a uniform, homogeneous application of ink to the plate cylinder, that is to say the ink splitting on ink-carrying rolls of a short inking unit for a rotary printing machine is improved. At least one of the inking unit rolls is provided, at least on its surface, with a coating having powerful microdipoles, in particular made of ferroelectric material. This circumferential surface is assigned electric means in order to produce an electric field by means of a DC/AC voltage, in order to polarize and depolarize the microdipoles of the circumferential surface in the form of a homogeneous or periodic charge image, so that an ink layer resting on it is given a desired electric roughness.

Short inking unit for a rotary printing machine and method of improving the ink splitting in such a short inking unit

A printing unit for a rotary printing machine with reversible image setting and digital changeover by means of thermal transfer, having an image-setting unit, an erasing or cleaning component and at least one inking unit. In order to achieve further cost advantages and miniaturization for such a printing unit, in particular for use in small edition color printing (digital offset press), the form cylinder and blanket cylinder are combined into one cylinder. In order to produce the reversible setting of an image (form production), this cylinder is provided with a hydrophilic surface and interacts directly with an impression cylinder in order to print on a substrate. The image-setting unit and erasing or cleaning component and inking unit are set against this cylinder.

The image subject to be transferred is applied in preformatted form to at least two printing formes in the form of segment-like image data in a row and column arrangement, in such a way that a first portion of information from each segment of the image subject (information (a) with appropriate index features) is provided on a first printing forme, and a second portion of information from the corresponding segment of the image subject (information (b) with appropriate index features) is provided on a second printing forme. As a result of synchronous rolling of the printing-forme cylinders, the portions of information are assembled to form complete information (<a,b> with the respectively combined index features) for each segment of the image subject on the printed page. For each printing-forme cylinder revolution, the index features for each segment of the image subject (information <a,b>) are recombined step by step in the manner of a permutation, so that each printed segment constitutes a unique print.

Method of printing unique prints or individually assembled printed products on rotary printing machines

A process for treating a used or unused printing plate with an erasing composition to clean the printing plate, laser imaging the printing plate with a polymeric substance, and to provide art image thereon, and fixing the image on the printing plate. Further, the printing plate has applied thereto any one of a heat-curable and water-soluble substance, if desired, immediately after the laser imaging, or a water-soluble substance immediately after the laser imaging, followed by warming of the printing plate. The water-soluble substance or the heat-curable and water-soluble substance is washed off using a solution essentially consisting of water before printing.

Process for the treatment of an erasable lithographic printing plate

In order to provide a rotary printing machine for direct printing, in which the printing-assembly cylinders are guided in a stable manner by means of a cost-effective device, the forme cylinder and the impression cylinder of a printing assembly are mounted, adjustably in terms of their mutual spacing, in side walls. At least one of the two cylinders is mounted on both sides in slides movable on straight guide elements which are arranged in each case on at least one of two opposite panels of an aperture in the side walls.

Web-fed rotary printing machine

A thermal transfer sheet suitable for preparing a lighographic printing form cylinder is provided including a substrate layer and a donor layer. The substrate layer includes a first polymer having mechanical stability at temperatures greater than 150 degrees C. and light transmission of at least 70% for wavelengths of from about 700 nm to about 1600 nm. The donor layer includes a second polymer having acidic groups and/or optionally substituted amide groups and an additive is capable of converting incident laser light energy into heat energy. A wetting aid and/or a solvent are also included in the donor layer. A method of making the thermal transfer sheet is also provided.

Thermal transfer sheet for the laser-induced coating of a printing form cylinder

In order to provide a rotary printing machine for direct printing, in which the printing-assembly cylinders are arranged in a space-saving way, there is arranged in side walls at least one double printing assembly containing two form cylinders which are located one above the other, each having its own drive motor and between which at least one impression cylinder is arranged, a web being printable between a form cylinder and an impression cylinder. Each form cylinder and the impression cylinder cooperating with the latter are mounted, adjustably in terms of their mutual spacing, in side walls of the printing unit. For this purpose, the adjustable cylinders are mounted on both sides in slides which are moveable on guide elements fastened to the side walls.

A thermal transfer film or a thermal transfer ribbon includes a substrate layer and a donor layer applied thereto. The substrate layer consists of at least one polymer composition which has mechanical stability at a temperature >150&deg; C. and transmission >70% for light having a wavelength of from 700 to 1600 nm. The donor layer comprises at least the following components: a substance which is able to convert the radiation energy of the incident laser light into heat energy, a polymer which contains acidic groups and/or unsubstituted or substituted amide groups thereof, and optionally a wetting aid. The polymer composition also includes a reactive polymer.

Thermal transfer film comprising a reactive polymer composition for laser-induced coating

A method for reversible imaging of a printing form is provided included feeding a coated transfer film between a printing form and an image information transfer unit having a transfer head. A surface of the printing form is then imaged using image data oriented activation to transfer the transfer film coating in the form of image spots to the printing form. The transfer film is removed from between the printing form and the image information transfer unit. The transferred image spots are fixed on the printing form by re-imaging or fixing the image spots using image data oriented activation. Remaining image information from the printing form is removed or erased once the printing operation is complete so that the printing form is capable of being used in a subsequent printing operation. A device for performing the method is also provided. Optionally, a single laser beam or a plurality of laser beams may be used in the device.
