A cutting insert has a substantially triangular or square basic shape with a top surface and a base surface that are connected together by lateral flanks. A cutting edge is formed at the transition between at least one flank and the top surface. The cutting edge extends between cutting corners, and the cutting edge has a portion that is convex in side view of a flank. The convex portion of the cutting edge is bounded on both sides by concavely curved portions.

Cutting insert

A tool for machining has a main body, a seat formed on the main body, a fastening screw, and a cutting insert. The seat has a base surface for supporting an underside of the cutting insert and a lateral bearing surface. A bore for receiving the fastening screw is formed in the base surface, the bore has a threaded bore portion and, closer toward the base surface, a thread-free bore portion. The cutting insert is fastened to the seat such that the head portion of the fastening screw is supported on the through-hole in the cutting insert. The threaded portion of the fastening screw engages with the threaded bore and the fastening screw is elastically deflected such that a thread-free shank portion bears against the thread-free bore portion on a side remote from the lateral bearing surface and is spaced apart from the thread-free bore portion.

Machining tool

A milling tool has a tool shank and a cutting head fastened to the forward end of the tool shank by way of a clamping connection. The clamping connection has a protrusion with clamping faces, and a recess with centering faces that interact with the clamping faces. Each of the centering faces has a first region where the centering faces are spaced from a longitudinal axis of the tool shank by a first distance and a second region at a smaller distance. The first region merges into the second region. The clamping faces of the protrusion are introducible into the recess between the first regions of the centering faces and are movable, by rotation of the cutting head about the longitudinal axis, into a clamping position in which the clamping faces interact in a force-fit with the second regions of the centering faces.

Milling tool

A drill cutting insert has a cutting edge at a transition between a side surface and a top side which is formed with n identical cutting corners and n identical partial cutting edges &#x2014;with n&#x3b5;{} &#x2014;extending between the cutting corners. Each of the n partial cutting edges has: adjoining a first cutting corner, a main lip which is straight in plan view of the top side; adjoining the other cutting corner, a secondary lip which is straight in plain view of the top side, and a transition section, via which the main lip and the secondary lip merge into one another and which has a convex section adjoining the main lip and a concave section adjoining the secondary lip. The main and secondary lips enclose on the outside an angle a &#x3b1;&#x3c;180&#xb0; in plan view of the top side.

Drill cutting insert

A milling tool with an axis of rotation D has a tool shank and a cutter region. The cutter region has a planar cutting edge running approximately perpendicularly to the axis of rotation D and merges peripherally into a main cutting edge and centrally into a secondary cutting edge. The secondary cutting edge is offset rearwardly from the planar cutting edge in the direction of the axis of rotation D. The transitional zone between the planar cutting edge and the secondary cutting edge has a notch produced as a cutting edge portion. The rearmost point of this notch, as seen in an end view in the direction of the axis of rotation D, lies behind the forward-most point of the secondary cutting edge, the angle &#x3b1; between the planar cutting edge and the adjoining portion of the notch lying in the range of 90&#xb0; to 175&#xb0;, and the angle &#x3b2; between the planar cutting edge and that portion of the notch adjoining the secondary cutting edge lying in the range of 3&#xb0; to 90&#xb0;. The angle &#x3b3; between that portion of the notch adjoining the secondary cutting edge and the secondary cutting edge lies in the range of 90&#xb0; to 177&#xb0;.
