A bimetal controlled circuit breaker includes a current bus that is electrically connected in series with the bimetal element. The current bus extends parallel to the bimetal element in the deflection plane of the latter and is rigid relative to the bimetal element. The deflection of the bimetal element is supported by the action of electrodynamic forces. In order for the circuit breaker to be suitable for greater current intensities and the effect of the electrodynamic forces to be better utilized, the bimetal element is electrically connected in parallel with a shunt path.

Bimetal controlled circuit breaker

A circuit breaker which is remote controllable by an external remote control switch by way of an electronic control unit and an electromagnetic switch drive controlled by the electronic control unit. The switch drive switches the electric circuit by a switch lock, which is latched to it and which, during an overload, is unlatched and opened by way of the release of the bimetal of switch drive and, as a result, interrupts the electric circuit. During bimetal release, an auxiliary switch is actuated, which by way of the electronic control unit turns the remote control switch off and re-latches switch drive with the opened switch lock.

Remote controlled overload protective switch

A push button actuated excess current protection switch, particularly an on-board electrical system protection switch with manual actuation and bimetal controlled automatic tripping includes a switch latch (7) actuated by the push button (41) and a bimetal tripping device for releasing the switch latch (7) with the bimetal tripping device including a self-heated approximately U-shaped punched bimetal (101) which is connected electrically in series in the current path through the switch. The one free arm end (102) of the bimetal is fastened to the end of a connecting lug (5) fixed in the interior of the switch housing. Its second free arm end (104) is fastened to a connecting piece (106, 106') leading to a mating contact (9') that is fixed to the housing. The base (114) is formed by the deflectable end of the bimetal which is kinematically connected with the switch latch. Between the connecting flap (105) of the connecting piece (106, 106') for the second arm end (104) of the bimetal (101) and the region of the connecting piece (106, 106') adjacent the mating contact that is fixed to the housing, the connecting piece is provided with a constriction (111) formed by a slit passing through the plate-shaped central section of the connecting piece (106, 106') transversely to the plane of the plate. The connecting flap (105) is rotatable, in order to adjust the response value of the bimetal (101), around the constriction in that an adjusting screw (110) charges the central section from the bottom face of the switch housing.

Push-button actuated overload protection switch

A push-button actuated overload protection switch, particularly an on-board protection switch having instant ON switching as well as manual, thermal and/or electromagnetic tripping. The switch has various components such as a switch housing, a pushbutton and an associated spring, a contact bridge and a toggle lever device, a detent lever and a detent pawl, as well as two switch rods, these parts being interconnected to obtain the desired switching function.

Pushbutton actuated overload protection switch

A single pole or multi-pole, manually or thermally operable overload protective circuit breaker contains in its main switching chamber an elbow lever which consists of an actuating arm and a main contact arm, and functions as active connection between an actuating element and a contact bridge member. The ends of the actuating arm and the main contact arm, which face away from the elbow joint, are articulatedly connected with a pressure button or the like actuating element and the contact bridge member, respectively. In any positions of swivelling from a folded, i.e. the circuit-breaking, to a stretched, i.e., an arrested circuit making position, of the elbow lever, the centers of the swivel joints are located on the central longitudinal axis of the circuit breaker, which axis extends toward the depth of an insulating housing of the latter. In the stretched position of the elbow lever, its actuating arm exerts pressure by means of a tripping projection, provided on the arm end near the swivel joint therefor, on a double-arm signal contact lever. This lever has a trip lever arm projecting into the main switch chamber, and another arm being lodged in an attachment casing mounted on the insulating housing and containing a signal contact point. This other arm can act upon a signal contact spring and can thereby make or break contact at the auxiliary or signal contact point provided by the contact spring and a fixed contact.

An actuating fixture for use with a push-pull switch comprises a push-pull button through which a tightening screw extends axially, and a clamping tongs which can be closed by the screw. In its operational end position, the tongs grips an actuating head of the switch below an annular flange of the head. The push-pull button projects from a collar portion of a protective housing, and the collar portion and a casing of the switch bear external threadings which are both of the same type and diameter. The push-pull button is connected with the end of the protective housing facing toward the switch by means of an encasing hose of water-tight, flexible material. The actuating fixture has an internal threading which can be screwed on to the aforesaid external threading of the switch casing. The actuating fixture can then be affixed in a switchboard by means of the aforesaid external threading of the collar portion in the same manner as the switch casing could be affixed in the switchboard by means of the said external threading of the switch casing.

Actuating fixture for push-pull switch

An overload circuit breaker has a housing and a tripping device supported in the housing and having a helically wound, current-carrying bimetal strip composed of two face-to-face arranged metal components situated, respectively, at the inside and at the outside of the bimetal strip. The bimetal strip has a tripping portion which executes a tripping motion as the bimetal strip undergoes deformation under the effect of heat generated by an excess current flowing through the bimetal strip. The bimetal strip is formed of two electrically serially connected, oppositely wound bimetal helices each having an outer end constituting the opposite ends of the bimetal strip. The bimetal strip is affixed to the housing at both of its opposite ends. Further, the bimetal helices each have an inner end connected to one another by a coupling part. The coupling part constitutes the tripping portion of the bimetal strip.

Tripping device for an overload circuit breaker

A multipole excess current switch composed of a plurality of single pole excess current switches each arranged to be placed in series in a respective circuit to be protected, each single pole switch including a U-shaped bimetallic member connected to conduct the current through such circuit and to undergo a change in shape when conducting an excess current, and a spring loaded switching arrangement arranged to open the switch in response to movement of the bimetallic member, and the switching arrangements of all of the single pole switches being mechanically connected to trigger operation of the spring loaded switching arrangements of the other single pole switches when one of the switches opens in response to an excess current through its associated circuit. Advantageously, the U-shaped bimetallic member is composed of a plurality of bimetallic strips disposed adjacent one another, but separated from one another by insulating material, with each strip being provided with a slot that divides it into two legs and the strips being interconnected to place all of the legs of the several strips in series, thereby establishing a high resistance path that makes the bimetallic member responsive to low current levels.
