An electrical connector is disclosed particularlity for use between a printed circuit board and another electrical component. A body member of dielectric material is provided having first and second exterior surfaces and a plurality of spaced-apart, contact-receiving apertures extending therethrough between the surfaces. Each aperture has a narrow cavity region, a shoulder cavity region, and a wide cavity region extending seriatim from the first to the second exterior surfaces. A plurality of electrical contacts are disposed in respective ones of the apertures, each contact including a terminal portion press-fit within the narrow cavity region, a shoulder cavity region, and an active contact portion extending into the wide cavity region for connection to another electrically conductive element. The press-fit of the terminal portion and the shoulder portion and the raised ridges between the contact and aperture together define a substantially irregular and constricted path through the aperture from the wide cavity region to the first exterior surface to provide an essentially liquid impervious passage. The active contact portion comprises a pair of spaced parallel prongs disposed within a long dimension of the wide cavity region, and oppositely disposed semi-cylindrical regions are provided intermediate the ends of the long dimension to accommodate a generally cylindrical male contact member inserted into the aperture.

Low cost electrical connector

An electrical contact is disclosed for termination to an electrical conductor. The contact includes a body portion having an active contact element at one end for engagement with a compatible contact and a terminal element at the other end adapted to be terminated to a conductor. The terminal element includes a pair of elongated, spaced conductor engaging arms having inside edges which define a uniformly tapered, inwardly diverging slot extending from the distal end of the terminal element for receiving the conductor. The inside edges of the arms are beveled for piercing insulation about the conductor. The arms have a generally uniform cross section extending substantially the length of the slot. The slot cooperates with the arms to provide substantially uniform normal forces on the conductor as the conductor is moved inwardly along the slot for termination purposes. An enlarged mouth is provided at the distal end of the terminal element, in communication with the tapered slot, for dressing the conductor into the mouth prior to terminating the conductor within the slot.

Electrical contact

A test adapter plug for connecting a solid wire conductor to a wire-wrap terminal post includes an elongated insulating housing having first and second openings respectively dimensioned to conform to the terminal post and the solid wire conductor, with the conductor opening accommodating passage therethrough only of the bare wire and not the insulation thereon. The housing contains two spaced-apart electrical receptacles interconnected by a conductor or a circuit element, such as a diode, each receptacle having a pair of spaced-apart spring contacts with the pairs of contacts respectively disposed adjacent to the two openings in alignment therewith for receiving and electrically contacting the terminal post and the solid wire conductor. The housing carries a strain relief member adjacent to the conductor opening for receiving the insulated portion of the conductor.

Electrical test adapter plug

A patchcord connector for use in terminating a plurality of insulated conductors and interconnecting the conductors to a modular terminal board includes a housing having first and second interlockable molded body members. A plurality of contact elements are disposed within the housing and include terminal contact portions having insulation-piercing members for terminating the insulated conductors as the body members are assembled and interlocked. To afford simple and rapid field assembly of the connector, the connector includes gripping members integral with each contact element for securely maintaining each insulated conductor in a terminating position within the connector prior to and during interlocking of the body members and termination of the conductors. Strain relief means are also provided for retaining each conductor within the connector housing when the first and second body members are in a finally assembled and interlocked position. In addition, to enable direct electrical testing of the contact elements, entrance assemblies are provided which permit limited access from the rear exterior of the housing to each contact element terminal portion when the body members are in an interlocked position and the conductors are fully terminated.

Patchcord connector

A module for a modular termination interchange system has a one-piece panel supporting an array of contacts. Patch cord connectors engage selected ones of these contacts from the front side of the panel as a means of selectively programming line selection and/or function. A plurality of projections extend from the rear of the panel to support electrical connector units each having a plurality of contacts which are electrically connected to the contacts supported by the panel, the contacts of a connector unit connected to respective contacts of at least one row of panel-mounted contacts so as to associate that row or rows with a particular electrical connector unit. Complementary mating connector units are interengageable with the connector units supported by the panel projections and extend the electrical connections, via respective cables, to telephones at the distal ends of the cables. The interchangeability of the electrical connectors permits complete freedom in associating telephones with telephone lines and signaling and switching functions without relocating a telephone instrument.

Modular termination system for telecommunication devices

A patchcord type electrical connector assembly includes a plurality of female connector parts supported by a mounting plate in an arrangement of perpendicular rows. A male patchcord connector part carries contacts spaced to engage respective ones of a plurality of the female connector parts and includes retention nibs which are received in retention recesses in the form of bores in the housings of the female connector parts. The male patchcord connector part includes longitudinally extending ribs at the edges thereof and intermediate longitudinally extending ribs between adjacent contacts to protect the contacts. The housing of the female connector parts are shaped to receive the longitudinally extending ribs by the provision of recesses which will accept a pair of end ribs of separate male connector parts or an intermediate rib of a male connector part. The complementary structure of the male and female connector parts provides polarization for proper contact identification and engagement.

Contact for multiple conductor connector

A patchcord type electrical connector assembly includes an array of electrical contacts which have insulation piercing contact portions which are shielded and insulated by housing portions which have conductor receiving slots aligned with the respective insulation piercing contact portions. Each of the conductor receiving slots includes at least one recessed area for receiving and holding a conductor as a part of a strain relief mechanism.
