Techniques for determining and reporting channel quality indicator (CQI) information are described. A user equipment (UE) may determine precoding information and channel quality information to be reported to a base station. The UE may jointly encode the precoding information and the channel quality information to obtain coded data. The UE may send the coded data to the base station.

CQI reporting for MIMO transmission in a wireless communication system

A method for registration-less paging includes establishing a mobile device identity for a mobile device in a wireless network, determining a time instance for the identified mobile device to listen to pages, and sending a page from the wireless network to the identified mobile device during the determined time instance. In one example, the method is for a network-initiated attach procedure and includes receiving a request to attach a mobile device in a wireless network, generating a paging message based on the request to attach the mobile device, sending a paging indicator to a mobile device based on the paging message during a time instance based on an agreed rule, and accepting an attach procedure from the mobile device based on the paging indicator.

Apparatus and method for network-initiated attachment and registration-less paging

An apparatus includes a processor and a memory coupled to the processor. The memory stores instructions executable by the processor to perform operations that include determining power information indicative of total power of a designated number of channelization codes. Determining the power information comprises scaling a power offset value based on a number of available channelization codes and the designated number of channelization codes. The operations also include sending the power information to user equipment (UE). The operations further include determining a particular number of transport blocks and determining a distinct channel quality indicator (CQI) index of each of the transport blocks based on a CQI value received from the UE.

Signaling of power information for MIMO transmission in a wireless communication system

Certain aspects of the present disclosure propose methods for identifying machine to machine (M2M) devices and services. Each device may indicate its M2M functionality either for each of the services performed by the device or for all of its services to a core network. The core network may report the M2M functionality of the device to other nodes in the network that may be involved with the M2M functionality of the device.

A method, an apparatus, and a computer program product for machine-to-machine communication are provided. A device receives a request from a requestor. The request requests the device to transmit information to the requestor according to a primary time duration. The device determines at least one secondary time duration within the primary time duration for transmitting the information to the requestor and schedules a transmission time within the at least one secondary time duration to transmit the information to the requestor in response to the request. The scheduling is based on additional information known to the device. A requestor determines a time duration for communicating with at least one device, transmits a request to the at least one device to transmit information to the requestor according to the time duration, and receives in response to the request the information from the at least one device within the time duration.

Enabling a communication feasibility determination time to complete communication exchanges between an M2M server and one or more M2M devices

Techniques for signaling power information to facilitate channel quality indicator (CQI) reporting are described. A Node B may send power information that may be used by a UE to determine a power per channelization code, P. In one design, the power information includes a power offset between the power of a data channel, P, and the power of a pilot channel. The Node B may determine Pbased on the power available for the data channel, the number of available channelization codes, and a designated number of channelization codes. The UE may determine Pbased on the power information from the Node B and the designated number of channelization codes. The UE may estimate at least one SINR of at least one transport block based on P, determine CQI information for the transport block(s) based on the SINR, and send the CQI information to the Node B.

A system and method provide single frequency, dual cell high-speed downlink packet access to a UMTS telecommunications system. A first downlink channel is provided from a first sector, and a second downlink channel is provided from a second sector, wherein the first downlink channel and the second downlink channel are in substantially the same carrier frequency. Feedback information such as a CQI and/or a PCI is provided on an uplink channel to facilitate adaptation of the respective downlink channels. Here, the uplink carrier may be in the same or a different carrier frequency than that of the downlink channels.

System and method for single frequency dual cell high speed downlink packet access

Techniques for determining and reporting channel quality indicator (CQI) information are described. A user equipment (UE) may determine a transmit power per channelization code, P, based on the available transmit power and a designated number of channelization codes. The UE may estimate SINRs of multiple transport blocks based on P, determine CQI indices for the transport blocks based on the SINRs, and send the CQI indices to a Node B. The Node B may send multiple transport blocks to the UE based on the CQI indices. The Node B may send the transport blocks (i) with the designated number of channelization codes at Por (ii) with a second number of channelization codes at P, with the transport block sizes being scaled based on the designated and second numbers of channelization codes.

Techniques for determining and reporting channel quality indicator (CQI) information are described. A user equipment (UE) may determine a transmit power per channelization code, P, based on the available transmit power and a designated number of channelization codes, e.g., by uniformly distributing the available transmit power across all transport blocks and all of the designated number of channelization codes. The UE may estimate SINRs of multiple transport blocks based on P, determine CQI indices for the transport blocks based on the SINRs, and send the CQI indices to a Node B. The Node B may send multiple transport blocks to the UE based on the CQI indices. The Node B may send the transport blocks (i) with the designated number of channelization codes at Por (ii) with a second number of channelization codes at P, with the transport block sizes being scaled based on the designated and second numbers of channelization codes.

Systems and techniques are disclosed for establishing a reference corresponding to the timing of a received signal from the first source, determining the timing for each received signal from a plurality of second sources, adjusting the reference to the timing of the received signal from one of the second sources, the timing of the received signal used to adjust the reference being closest in time to the unadjusted reference, and synchronizing a signal to the reference for transmission.

Communications in an asynchronous cellular wireless network

Techniques for sending feedback information in a wireless communication system are described. In one design, precoding control indication (PCI), rank, and channel quality indication (CQI) for data transmission from a transmitter to a receiver may be determined by evaluating different hypotheses. A report may be formed based on the PCI, rank and CQI. The PCI may include a precoding matrix or vector to use for the data transmission. The CQI may include at least one CQI value for at least one transport block to send for the data transmission. The rank and CQI may be combined based on a mapping. For example, the CQI may include one CQI value and fall within a first range of values if one transport block is preferred by the receiver. The CQI may include two CQI values and fall within a second range of values if two transport blocks are preferred.

Feedback of precoding control indication (PCI) and channel quality indication (CQI) in a wireless communication system

Techniques for transmitting data in a manner to support multi-user scheduling, multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) transmission, and interference cancellation are described. A base station assigns multiple time segments of a transmission time interval (TTI) to at least one terminal, maps data for each terminal to at least one time segment assigned to the terminal, and spreads the data in each time segment with at least one channelization code used in the TTI. A terminal receives an assignment of at least one time segment from among multiple time segments of the TTI, obtains input samples for the at least one time segment, and despreads the input samples with the at least one channelization code used in the TTI.

Transmission structure supporting multi-user scheduling and MIMO transmission

A method for improving channel estimation in a wireless communication system is disclosed. A wireless signal that includes a plurality of multipath components is received. N channel estimates are then obtained, where N is any positive integer greater than one. Each channel estimate of the N channel estimates corresponds to a different multipath component of the plurality of multipath components. The effects of interference between the plurality of multipath components on the N channel estimates is then reduced.

Systems and methods for improving channel estimation

A method for providing multiple-user multiple-input and multiple-output in a high-speed packet access system is described. A channel quality indicator is received from a dual-stream-capable wireless communication device requesting a single-stream transmission at a first data rate. The first data rate is adjusted by an adaptive outer loop margin to obtain a second data rate. A data stream is transmitted to the wireless communication device using the second data rate. A positive-acknowledgement/negative-acknowledgement (ACK/NACK) is received from the wireless communication device. The adaptive outer loop margin is adjusted according to the received ACK/NACK.
