The invention relates to a method for encoding and decoding communication data, especially voice data, which is transmitted in a plurality of data packets in a digital communication network, especially for internet telephony. The communication data is encoded by means of a selected code at an emission point in each of the data packets; a code number of the selected code is transmitted as code information with each of the data packets; and the communication data is decoded by allocating the code number to the code stored in the code table created at a reception point.

Method for encoding and decoding communication data

A communication system for switching data packets, with allocated items of routing information, between connected communication terminal apparatuses and/or communication terminal apparatuses of connected local networks wherein the system includes at least one network coupling unit in which means are arranged for the evaluation of the routing information, for the switching of the data packets dependent on the result of the evaluation, and for the adaptation, in accordance with format, of the data packets. Through the advantageous arrangement of router functions in the network coupling unit, an economical switching-oriented connected can be made between a local network and a public network.

Method for the transmission of a telefax message. The method is used for transmitting a telefax message from a telefax terminal equipment (TF) at a transmission side to a plurality of telefax terminal equipment (RF1 . . . RFn) at a reception side. The telephone numbers of the telefax terminal equipment (RF1 . . . RFn) are input into an operating unit (KB) of the telefax terminal equipment (TF) of the transmission side and are stored in a data area (COMFIL). Picture elements of the on original telefax message are converted into electrical picture signal elements and are intermediately stored in a further data area (NA) allocated to the first data area (COMFIL). A controller (CC) generates second image signal elements from every telephone number and converts these into, in particular, an original telefax message page format. The second and the first image signal elements are transmitted together to the telefax terminal equipment of the reception side identified by the telephone number.

Method and apparatus for the transmission of a telefax message

Facsimile data signal trains are transmitted from an originating station of Group 2 or Group 3 to a destination station Group 2 or Group 3 by way of an intermediate station. The scan line frequency of the facsimile data signal trains of the second group thereby amounts to n lines/second and m picture elements/line of the originals scanned whose information content is to be transmitted by facsimile data signal trains of Group 3. In the intermediate station, data signal trains of Group 2 are converted into data signal trains of Group 3 before intermediate storage and are subsequently intermediately stored, whereas data signal trains of Group 3 are intermediately stored without conversion. The data signal trains of Group 2 received in the intermediate station are converted into data signal trains of Group 3 before they are intermediately stored by demodulation, scanning with a frequency T2=m.times.n Hertz and coding of the samples according to a redundancy-reducing source code method.
