A signal scaling circuit for accurately reducing the effective amplitude of an input signal by a rational factor N/M, where N and M are integers and N&#x3c;M, is disclosed. An input, reference, bias and output node as well as control circuitry are selectively coupled to M switched capacitor circuits such that N/M scaling may be achieved. Cooperation between the M switched capacitor circuits and the control circuitry divides the M switched capacitors circuits into subsets of N and M&#x2212;N switched capacitors, respectively. Each subset is then selectively coupled to an input, reference and/or bias signal to produce an output signal having as one of its components an N/M portion of the input signal. Error reduction in the scaled signal is achieved by shuffling the switched capacitor circuits populating each subset after selected time intervals.

An insulating member has two (2) spring arms each normally biased to a first position and each pivotable to a second position. A pin in a housing at one end of the spring arms provides the spring arm pivot fulcrum. Resilient electrical conductors extend through apertures in the other ends of the spring arms. Looped portions in the conductors at positions beyond the apertures resiliently engage, respectively, probes and shield casings in a pair of electrical connectors when the spring arms are biased to the first positions. Additional looped portions in the conductors at positions between the apertures may be fixedly positioned relative to the housing by an insulating pin extending into the housing to the approximate center of such additional looped portions. The probes and shield casings are included in coaxial connectors disposed within the housing. The connectors include insulators between the probes and the shield casings. The connectors are coaxial with a pair of barrels disposed within the housing. A plug having a central pin, a shield and a coaxial casing is insertable into individual ones of the barrels to displace the electrical conductors from the probe coaxial with the plug and to establish an electrical circuit between (a) the pin and the probe (b) the shield casing in such connector and the plug shield and (c) the coaxial casing in the plug and the individual one of the barrels. When the plug is not inserted into either barrel, an electrical circuit includes the probes and the shield casings in the electrical conductors.

Connector assembly

A member has two (2) spring arms each movable between first and second positions. Each spring arm is normally biased to a first position and is movable to a second position. Each spring arm has at its free end an insulator and a conductor disposed on the insulator. The insulator isolates the conductor electrically from the associated spring arm. An electrical lead is connected between the conductors. In the first position of the spring arms, the electrical conductors engage individual ones of a pair of probes and establish common probe potentials. Each probe is disposed coaxially in an insulator in an individual one of a pair of electrical connectors and the insulator is disposed coaxially in a casing in the connector. The probe extends axially beyond the insulator and the casing in each connector so that the associated electrical conductor is able to engage the probe in that connector in the first position of the spring arm. This causes the two (2) connectors to be connected in series in this first relationship. When the spring arm associated with an individual one of the connectors is moved to a second position, the electrical conductor engages a first terminal in an impedance (e.g. a resistor) having a second terminal common with the connector casings to establish a reference potential (e.g. ground). In this second relationship, the electrical connector forms a circuit which includes the moved conductor, the impedance and the casing ground.

Electrical connector

A connector assembly includes first and second conductive probes, first and second conductive shields respectively enveloping the first and second probes in an insulated relationship and a cover insulatingly enveloping the shields. First and second barrels may be disposed within the cover at a first axial end of the cover. Third and fourth barrels may be disposed within the cover, at the opposite axial end of the cover in enveloping relationship to respective ones of the shields. An assembly including an impedance is insulatingly supported by the third and fourth barrels. An actuator assembly insulatingly supported by the first and second barrels has (a) a first operative relationship establishing electrical continuity between the probes and between the shields and (b) a second operative relationship interrupting such continuities and establishing a circuit including an individual one of the probes, the impedance and the corresponding one of the shields. The actuator assembly includes first and second actuators having a fixed and insulating relationship to each other. Each actuator is fixedly attached to the barrels at an intermediate position to define first and second resilient arms. The arms on each individual end of the actuators are constructed to engage the opposite ends of the impedance when the arms at that end are actuated to the second operative relationship, this occurring when a plug is inserted into a particular one of the first and second barrels. Insulators on the arms insulate the arms from the plug.

A headband assembly for sensing signals of brain wave frequencies of human subjects that includes an adjustable headband adapted to fit various sized heads, constructed to be quickly attached and detached by the wearer, and including electrodes that are shiftable along the headband and of a construction to penetrate the hair of the subject in making skin contact.

Methods and apparatus are provided for deriving an audible indication of a person's brain wave frequency, and for actuating a tape player or the like to deliver a recorded program of material educational in content when said frequency reaches a preselected frequency value or range. Means may also be included for rendering the audible indication of the measured frequency of the subject person inaudible upon actuation of said tape player.
