A method for sanitizing objects within a gardening appliance includes: positioning at least one object on a grow tower of the gardening appliance; during a sanitization cycle, rotating the grow tower such that the at least one object on the grow tower is exposed to an ultraviolet assembly of the gardening appliance; activating the ultraviolet assembly such that the at least one object on the grow tower is illuminated by ultraviolet rays from the ultraviolet assembly; and after the sanitization cycle, removing the at least one object from the grow tower. A related gardening appliance is also provided.

System and method for sanitizing objects in an indoor gardening appliance

A refrigerator appliance includes a cabinet defining a chilled chamber, a door rotatably hinged to the cabinet to provide selective access to the chilled chamber, and an autofill pitcher dispensing system. The system includes a removable pitcher defining an interior portion, a dispenser defining a cavity within the chilled chamber to receive the pitcher and including a fill tube for directing water from a water supply into the interior portion of the pitcher, an electrically operated sensor configured to detect an operational status of the system and generate a signal associated with the detected operational status, and a controller electrically coupled to the sensor. The controller is configured to determine when the autofill pitcher dispensing system is experiencing a leaking condition based on the generated signal.

A filter assembly for authenticating a filter cartridge includes a filter housing and an optical scanner mounted to the filter housing. A controller uses the optical scanner to take one or more digital images of the filter cartridge and obtain digital coded data identifying the filter cartridge. Specifically, the controller locates a functional locator on the filter cartridge, determines a location of an identifying region on the filter cartridge, reads the digital coded data by interrogating the identifying region with the optical scanner, and determines that the filter cartridge is authentic based at least in part on the digital coded data.
